‘Dirty John’ – LA Times posts series on psychopath John Meehan and his last love fraud victim

John Meehan (California Department of Corrections)

Two days after being released from jail, John Meehan, a serial con artist, met his last victim. Of course, Meehan said nothing to the new woman, Debra Newell, about his history of stealing from and terrorizing his romantic partners.

Debra’s kids didn’t like Meehan, but she was in love and didn’t listen to their warnings. Then things got nasty.

Thank you for posting this, Donna.

I just read the entire story on the LA Times website. This is truly scary and so true of how these disordered people twist our minds.

After my own long term marriage to a sociopath ended; I thought I too, had found love on a dating website. This was 3 years ago. In the beginning I thought I had met prince charming. While my encounter was not physically abusive I did realize that I had become involved with a man who was emotionally abusive. I did have a few red flags in the beginning that I brushed off because he played on my sympathies. Similar to Debra’s family; my family and friends kept telling me they didn’t believe he was truthful and was a player. I couldn’t see it because I really believed that he had told me the truth; especially with his health issues. In the end I believe he was a narcissist at the very least.

I swore off dating and just decided to concentrate on my internal happiness and the company of friends and family. I have no desire to go back to the on line dating because I now believe if it is meant to be it will happen. Building my internal happiness and having NO CONTACT with either of these dissordered men has helped to heal my mind and give me the clarity to see what was in front of me all the time.

Thank you for this site. I read it religiously. I also just re-read your book – Red Flags of Love Fraud. Keeping this information in front of me helps keep me focused on what I DO NOT want/nor deserve in my life.
