Donna Andersen and Dr. Liane Leedom to speak at conference in Washington

I’ve heard from many mothers—and sometimes fathers—who are attempting to co-parent with a sociopath. These situations are exceptionally difficult. Many sociopaths manipulate the legal system into awarding them custody of children, even though they psychologically, emotionally and even physically abuse the children.

The Battered Mothers Custody Conference is specifically for women who are fighting abusive partners for custody of their children. (Note: I do recognize that men who have children with sociopathic women face the same issues, but this conference is focused on mothers who have lost custody.) The conference will take place May 10-13 at the George Washington University Law School in Washington, D.C. The speakers include many people, such as lawyers and psychologists, who are in the trenches helping women fight these battles.

I am thrilled to be presenting a workshop at the conference, called Love Fraud — How you got hooked, how to reclaim yourself. Here’s the program description:

Love Fraud — How you got hooked, how to reclaim yourself

If your ex assaulted you and wants to take your children away, you’re probably dealing with a sociopath. Donna Andersen is author of and the new book, “Red Flags of Love Fraud — 10 signs you’re dating a sociopath.” In this workshop for mothers, she explains the traits of a sociopath, the tactics they use to seduce you, why the sociopathic seduction worked, and why the relationships are addictive. Understanding this disorder is the first step towards breaking free—the next step is making the decision to heal. Donna offers steps you can take to reclaim your sense of self—which will help you deal with the custody battle.

Dr. Liane Leedom, a Lovefraud contributor, is also presenting a workshop. Hers is called, Psychopathy in Perpetrators of Domestic Violence.

Another speaker will be Kelly Rutherford, star of Gossip Girl. She lost custody of her children to her German ex, whose U.S. visa was revoked so he now lives—with the children—in France. Rutherford recently appeared on Katie Couric’s TV show, along with Mo Hannah, organizer of the Battered Mothers Custody Conference. Rutherford told Couric that she’s flown to France 40 times to see her kids, and financially, she’s “hanging by a thread.”

If you are a mother fighting for custody of your children, I recommend that you attend the conference if you can. You may learn important strategies to help you cope with your situation. The conference includes an extended workshop for mothers representing themselves in court.

Someone posted a link to judgement – interesting read. I couldn’t finish it right now but so far, it doesn’t sound like the judgement was that unreasonable. The ex-husband even has to pay for flights, car and accomodations for her while in France. She chooses not to use it and then claims she’s going broke. Sorry, but this smells a little fishy to me. Just sayin.
