Why do we keep ending up in the same situation with the same heartbreak? One reason is because we all have set points — internal settings for mental, emotional and ...biological states.

Tonight I’ll explain that our natural predisposition is to keep returning to our established emotional and biological baselines. That’s why we feel stuck.

I’ve spoken to many survivors of sociopaths (narcissists, psychopaths) who know on an intellectual level, without a doubt, that a certain individual is bad for them. Still, they feel drawn to the person and can’t break away. And then when they get rid of one bad actor, they get involved with another one just like the last one.

But it’s possible to change our set points and therefore change our lives. EFT Tapping can help.

Why do narcissists, psychopaths and other disordered individuals lie, cheat, manipulate and exploit? Psychology experts typically tell us that they engage in antisocial behavior because they lack empathy and impulse ...control. In a new video series, the Lovefraud author Dr. Liane Leedom explains why they are wrong.

The series is called Antisocial Motivation. Each month, Dr. Liane Leedom, a psychiatrist and professor of counseling at the University of Bridgeport, explains an aspect of her research on human social behavioral systems and how they are affected by psychopathy.

In this first episode, Dr. Leedom provides an overview of her concept: Psychopathic behavior can only be explained by motivational theory. Humans have four social behavioral systems — attachment, caregiving, sexual and dominance. Understanding how they are influenced by psychopathy helps survivors realize that they were never responsible for the abusive behavior that they endured.

Wealthy widow files lawsuit claiming gigolo scammed her for nearly $6 million

A wealthy, heartbroken widow from New York City claimed she was ...

A wealthy, heartbroken widow from New York City claimed she was scammed out of nearly $6 million by a male escort in a lawsuit filed last week in Manhattan Supreme ...Court. Her tragic story sounded like so many others I’ve come across here on Lovefraud — just a lot bigger.

The allegations in this story are breathtaking — tragedy, illness, desperation, manipulation, flying monkeys, betrayal, hopefully a hero, and courage. The case hasn’t been proven yet, but if it is, it will demonstrate once again that absolutely anyone can be swindled.

Marianne Flippo, age 49, claimed in court filings that Gregg Starr, a male escort with ice-blue eyes and six-pack abs, professed his love for her in an attempt to swindle $10 million. He succeeded in getting $5.95 million, she said in the lawsuit, and she wanted it back.

I’ll tell you about her lawsuit. Then I’ll answer your questions.

Oxytocin, trust and why we fall for psychopaths

Invariably, once we realize we've been conned by a psychopath, this person has lied to us from the very beginning, and we fell for all of it, we ask why? ...Why did we believe? Why did we trust?

Tonight, I will explain why we went along with the psychopath’s program. The short answer is that we did what we, as social animals, are biologically designed to do.

Human beings have evolved over millennia to live in community, and trust is the glue that holds us together.

I will discuss the work of Paul J. Zak. Zak spent 10 years researching a brain chemical called oxytocin and its role in human behavior. He says oxytocin inspires trust; trust is connected to morality; and morality is connected to the survival of the human race.

Unfortunately, oxytocin can also influence our decision to trust the psychopath, which is usually a bad idea.

No matter what they may say to you, what sociopaths really want is to control you. One of their methods of control is the isolation campaign — keeping you from ...the people you love. But from their flowery words in the beginning, you'd never know it.

In the beginning, sociopaths want to be with you all the time. They proclaim that they are so wrapped up in you that they can't bear to be apart, and it feels flattering to be so desired. Slowly, this morphs into the sociopath always wanting to know where you are, which morphs into jealousy if you spend time with anyone else, including your family and long-time friends.

What’s going on? The sociopath is establishing control over you. The key, for them, is to separate you from the people you love — and who love you.

Tonight ...I’ll explain 10 subtypes of psychopathy, based on the work of Dr. Theodore Millon. He identified 10 subtypes of psychopathy.

Millon’s work does much to explain why some psychopaths are charming while others have no social skills.

It explains why some psychopaths are meticulous about their health and appearance, whereas others, like my ex, are overweight, diabetic and won’t take basic steps to care for themselves.

It can help you understand why some psychopaths plot deliberate, complex schemes and others act on impulse with no regard for consequences.

Here's the key point: personality disorders are complex.
