I told a therapist about the psychopath and she defended him. She is in denial.

I’ve seen this discussed here before.

      Dear Sunnygal,

I am a little confused. Did she know the person in question? Not that it matters too much. I’ve seen some therapies where they make suggestions that challenge assumptions. However, I personally would feel let down if I was investing my time and $ in a therapist seeking understanding but sensing the person didn’t understand.

I’ve yet to find anyone in my local area who specializes, is experienced, in helping people recover from entanglements with sociopaths.

However, I did find in group therapy at my local domestic violence center that another woman had an abuser that displayed like a hardcore psychopath. At least in that group therapy where everyone is there to listen, and say their own part), that I felt less alone and there was another who felt much like I did, is trying to recover much like I am, and we both are survivors of years of abuse and exploitation. Someone “gets it.” And the group therapy is free.

truthmatters I told her I thought he was purposely withholding something I needed. She said maybe he was just busy. I think she is naive. I won’t see her again. I’n glad you found a helpful group.
