Two months ago, Bryan Kohberger was arrested and charged with the murder of four college students in Idaho. I wrote an article about him on Lovefraud, in which I compared what was known about his actions to the Psychopathy Checklist Revised (PCL-R). Is Bryan Kohberger a psychopath? The PCL-R is the gold standard for evaluating an individual’s level of psychopathy, especially in criminal situations. Surprisingly, Kohberger did not seem to score very high on the PCL-R. Since then, more has been learned about Kohberger’s actions. Stunning details were released in the police probable cause affidavit, which laid out the evidence for his arrest. According to the affidavit: DNA was …
News websites and TV shows are full of stories about sociopaths. They’re easy to spot, once you know what to look for: Lies, entitlement, shocking behavior, no remorse.

Who is Bryan Kohberger, accused in Idaho murders?
Wow — a suspect has been arrested in the gruesome murders of four Idaho college students — and he has a master’s degree in criminal justice! Bryan Kohberger, 28, was pursuing a Ph.D. in criminology at Washington State University in Pullman, which is only a 15-minute drive from Moscow, Idaho, where the murders occurred. First of all, Kohberger claims he is innocent, and under U.S. law he is innocent until proven guilty. Secondly, I have no information about the case beyond what is reported in the media, which may or may not be accurate. And finally, I have not seen any references to any psychological evaluations. Still, reporters are scrambling to answer the question, “Who is Bryan …
83-year-old serial killer proves that sociopaths don’t change
Twice, Harvey Marcelin, 83, was convicted of murdering and dismembering girlfriends. Marcelin spent more than 50 years in prison for the gruesome crimes, and was paroled in 2019. After his release, he started identifying as a woman. Marcelin was placed at the George Daly House, a short-term housing alternative for seniors in New York City. Marcelin’s behavior frightened Monica Archer, a case worker there, and she repeatedly warned her superiors about the threats he made. Archer’s concerns were ignored, and Marcelin was moved into an individual apartment. A week later, Marcelin allegedly murdered and dismembered another woman, 68-year-old Susan Leyden. Leyden’s leg was found on a street in …

Ex-cop killed his former girlfriend and then himself, prosecutor says
A terrible story was on the front page of my newspaper this morning: Yesterday, a local ex-cop killed his former girlfriend and then himself. William W. Beattie, 47, once a police officer in Atlantic City, New Jersey, forced his way into the home of Erin A. Gatier, 47, in Deptford Township, New Jersey, shot her and then shot himself, according to the Press of Atlantic City. The story had only a couple of comments about Beattie’s disposition, but they are telling. Matt Greenberg, a former co-worker of the victim, had an unfriendly email exchange with Beattie, in which the ex-cop told him to stay away from Erin. He said, according to the news account, “She did admit to me that he was …

Story of the abusive ex-husband, now dead, cites Lovefraud’s Senior Sociopath research
Forty years ago, Sherry Amatenstein was married to an abuser. Lovefraud readers will recognize her story. After sucking her into a relationship with lies and plagiarized poetry, they married, and soon he isolated her from her family and became emotionally and psychologically abusive. Sherry also experienced two incidents of physical abuse. Sherry was miserable but felt trapped — until her husband decided that he was done. Still, she was attached to the relationship — can anyone say trauma bond? Finally, she escaped. After her abusive ex-husband, she eventually left her career as a magazine editor, became a social worker, and found a happy relationship. You can read her story here: I found …

Why we comply with the sociopath’s demands when we know we shouldn’t
The cable TV network NewsNation recently interviewed me for a story about why some women help inmates bust out of jail. This is obviously wrong and illegal, but multiple people have done it (See Top 10 people who helped their lovers escape from prison.) Experts generally report that many prisoners are sociopaths—this is probably especially true of those who plot escapes. So the question is, why do people who know better comply with the sociopath's demands, including outrageous demands like escaping from prison? In the most recent jailbreak, Samuel Hartman, convicted of raping a nine-year-old child, escaped from an Arkansas prison work detail, allegedly with the help of his mother and wife. …

Obituary for a sociopath: Evil does eventually die
https://youtu.be/lFz3Ye351YE It's refreshing, and for some people healing, to see an honest obituary for a sociopath. Lawrence H Pfaff Sr. died recently, and the notice in the Florida Times Union reflected how his son truly felt about him: Lawrence H Pfaff Sr. was born in Belmont, NY, on April 16, 1941. He passed away on June 27, 2022, living a long life, much longer than he deserved. He is survived by his three children, no four. Oops, five children. Well as of 2022 we believe there is one more that we know about, but there could be more. His love was abundant when it came to himself, but for his children it was limited. From a young age, he was a ladies' man and an abusive alcoholic, …
When narcissistic injury turns into pathological rage
By Joanie Bentz, B.S., M.Ed., LBS I always say that all narcissists are dangerous and have the potential to escalate to pathological rage —seriously harming their targets or anyone who gets in their way. For example, let’s look at the case of Jodi Arias. In 2008, Jodi Arias was convicted of the gruesome murder of her boyfriend, Travis Alexander. I remember catching various glimpses of Jodi Arias in news articles online and on TV. I vividly remember her face. Arias and Alexander shared an on-again, off-again relationship described as tumultuous. On their last day together, Arias, 24, stabbed the 30-year-old Alexander 29 times, slit his throat, and then fired a bullet into the back of his …
