How to recognize and recover from the sociopaths – narcissists in your life › Forums › News stories about sociopaths and recovery › Lonely Illinois woman is scammed of $92,000 life savings by conman
Lonely after two years of pandemic isolation, an Illinois woman named Kathy joined the 50+ dating website SilverSingles
Kathy was swept off her feet by an older gentleman who called her ‘wifey,’ and ‘soulmate,’ and the ‘the love of my life,’ before beginning to ask Kathy for money
$92,000 and one viewing of ‘The Tinder Swindler’ later, Kathy realized she was the victim of an online dating romance scam
Romance scams exploded during the pandemic, multiplying six-fold between 2017 and 2021, and costing victims $1.3 billion Fed Trade Commission reports
Hi Sept4 –
That is so heartbreaking because not only does this woman have to deal with the relationship issues, but the horror and outrage of having her life savings swindled. And as the article was saying, that it has happened to so many. Luckily there is much information and books coming out to educate people, but I think that many people may not be aware because of all that has been going on with the war and Covid, and then perhaps their attention goes to all of that and they miss other information that is so important. Nevertheless, I am thankful for Donna and others who are doing so much to bring awareness to this issue. And for those like yourself who post and participate so that there is a good network of people to be here when someone does find their way to this forum.
Blessings
