Wow, this story sounds familiar. Guy pretends to be a Navy SEAL who did tours of Iraq and Afghanistan to seem “honorable,” then takes money from romantic interests and others.
Those romance scams are awful!
Glad to see he was caught. Wish there were more of these slimeballs being held accountable. My question — are the victims ever going to get their money back?? Sounds like he used all his ill-gotten money to enhance his lifestyle.
In my experience, the money is usually gone – spent on who knows what. And they have no assets – that’s why they are scamming in the first place. So I would say it’s unlikely.
I’m too much of a tightwad to be defrauded financially but I can be emotionally vulnerable
