So I just watched a new documentary TV / streaming series on the actress Brittany Murphy’s suspicious death & then the suspicious death a few months later of her husband (screenwriter & director Simon Monjack) on HBO Max. It is called ‘What Happened, Brittany Murphy?’ & it has 2 episodes so far (I’m not sure how many episodes in total it will be).
In the second episode we learn that Brittany’s husband had a secret life which I don’t think came to light in this much detail before this show. Simon had a couple of undisclosed marriages / partnerships & hidden children (1 was a teenager at the time Brittany married Simon). Simon also committed a lot of financial fraud & scams (the show details them pretty well) as well as drug use & abuse.
It is also interesting to see Simon’s brother & mother interviewed for the first time. The brother seems superficially okay, but Simon’s mother like Simon seems odd & creepy. I wonder if sociopathy runs in the Monjack family?
Tentatively it looks as if Simon didn’t kill Brittany, but he wasn’t exactly healthy for her to live with & when she got sick Simon was either grossly indifferent to getting Brittany the medical care she needed &/or did everything he could to keep her from seeking help with her anorexia, prescription drug use &/or abuse & the pneumonia that was her declared cause of death.
The show may be of interest to those who are interested in personality disordered people,

      Hi nosp –
Thank you for bringing the issue forth about Brittany Murphy and the mystery about her untimely death. I watched the Larry King interview with her husband and mother on You Tube and it is completely intriguing me. You could look at what they were saying from one angle and they seemed loving and caring, but then since I was suspicious from what you wrote from seeing the HBO mini documentary about it, I then saw it all also from a completely different angle and it suddenly seemed so creepy. I purchased the season from Amazon, but haven’t gotten to watch it yet. But anyway, it demonstrates how a psychologically abusive relationship can seem normal on a certain level, and why people can get sucked in too deeply before they know it – because they just didn’t see it. So education is so important. Anyway, I’m looking forward to watching the documentary. Thanks again for the recommendation.

Hi nosp – I watched the first episode and my take is that he was a classic psychopath. But his type, and I am sure there are many, is to make an extra cage of drug addiction. He didn’t want the autopsy because he thought he would get caught about the drugs in her system. From what was said, it was apparent that they had been using crack together. At the time of her death, perhaps they weren’t using it because of the illness with her lungs. In any case, she probably got weakened lungs from the crack in the first place, and thus was easy to get an infection, and then her immune system would have been lowered from the other prescription drugs as well. It is obvious to me that he was giving her his prescriptions that were highly addictive. For the autopsy, they did find prescription drugs in her system, but I am sure they didn’t take the time or expense to isolate each particular type. All in all, this got highly publicized because of how young she was and because of her celebrity status. But there are countless women who have and are suffering the same fate, so it is good that it is being exposed. Thanks again for the recommendation.
      Blessings
