Hi I am new to the forum and am reading the book by HealingJourney right now called The Survivor’s Quest. I have 2 daughters who are 9 years old and 12 years old by someone whom I feel is a psychopath or as my therapist said tonight has a major personality disorder.
Yesterday he immaturely posted the middle finger (flipping the bird) on his Facebook profile. I was offended so I blocked him. I should have done that a long time ago!
Anyway, moving on he only cares about himself and when I was married to him I had to do ALL the cleaning; he cooked and did some outside work so I am grateful for that. He seemed to change as soon as we had children. When he discarded me, I felt like I had failed a job and a relationship but more like I failed a job as a stay-at-home mom that he had put me in the position of being.
Sadly, my 12 year old needs braces and has for a long time but he only takes them to the dental van at school once a year and is waiting for all her baby teeth to fall out before getting her braces. Not realizing that the dentist (a real dentist) could do so much nowadays! I only hope he does get her braces one day and it costs him a pretty penny. I have complained about this to him with no result. He ignores me. He’s really good at that!!!!!
My 9 year old still wets the bed every night. He refuses to get her looked at properly by the pediatrician and/or take her to a urologist. Again he ignores me.
I try to do no contact except when it is to do visitation dates and schedule. Like today I asked if I could have the children this Thursday night and he said yes as only response.
My oldest daughter gets treatment for a mental health condition that they have diagnosed only as “mood swings” where she gets risperidol twice daily. I have fought this with no luck because I am the non-custodial parent and he is the one with all the control and custody. Anyway whenever I suggest therapy or a session that my psychiatrist mentioned where it would only be $10 a session he says no for family therapy. He says if I want to be involved in any therapy I have to go to the center that treats my 12 year old and pay for it with my insurance. I have said NO WAY and I have stuck to my guns.
This is a very difficult and frustrating situation. Hope I didn’t get others too frustrating hearing about it. Take care.

Sarah – I am so sorry for your situation. Everything that you describe is typical for a sociopathic parent. Do the best you can for your daughters when they are with you. There is not point asking him for anything. And every time you do, he gets the thrill of hurting you by saying no.
