How to recognize and recover from the sociopaths – narcissists in your life › Forums › Lovefraud Community Forum – General › First advice to victims of a sociopath should be to see a lawyer
This is something I really struggled with and still do.
When someone is breaking up with a sociopath the overwhelming amount of advice is emotional: seek counseling, self care, self actualization, spirituality, education on sociopaths/narcissists etc
However none of this advice will actually really do anything to help you practically.
The only advice should be TALK TO A LAWYER and/or in case of physical/sexual abuse or threats TALK TO POLICE.
Ultimately a court of law or police are the only things that can truly help you and protect you and give you a chance at fairness and justice. All the emotional stuff is really just a distraction and will pacify you which ultimately enables the sociopath to abuse you more.
Also the only way a sociopath can be held accountable is through money or prison. They simply don’t care about anything else.
No amount of talking or counseling or journaling is going to do anything to help you or to hold the sociopath accountable. The only way to protect yourself and to hold them accountable is in court because money is all they care about.
And if there is any physical or sexual abuse or threats go to police because police is the only one who can help you. Counseling and self care etc will not do anything for you.
