Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the ruler of Dubai, inflicted “exorbitant” domestic abuse against his ex-wife, a senior British judge has concluded as he awarded her sole responsibility for looking after their children.

Hi – That was an amazing news piece of tremendous victory ! – domestic abuse is a world wide phenomenon, and is finally getting the recognition and acknowledgment that is so important to putting a stop to it. But it this case, it is especially significant because in a culture where the male and especially one of royalty, it basically seems that they just can do whatever they like without any consequences and just get their way. And here is finally a case that real justice prevailed. And I feel also a sense of personal validation along with the woman. We all benefit from this. That judge showed a tremendous amount of courage too, to stand up to that kind of power even though it was in England, because even though from a different country, they still hold significant influence and can be a threat. What a victory in every way! Thanks for sharing it.

Polestar and Donna – Agreed – a significant victory. This man is rich beyond reason, powerful beyond believing — as Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates, leader of Dubai and owner of nearly all of Dubai Holding, his worth is over 14 billion. Power and wealth is the ultimate corrupter – he has never NOT gotten exactly what he wants, never been told “no” in his 70 plus years, never been held accountable for any of his ruthless behavior. Now a British court is standing up to him – and a woman is behind it. He has to be furious. I don’t think this is the end – he is going to find a way to get even. Haya is the only one of his 6 wives to stand up for herself and in his culture, that is just Not Done. Even his 16 children mean nothing but a means to an end – look how he treated his older daughters – kidnapping them, forcing them to his will, making at least one disappear. A truly evil human.

This is a legal victory for abuse victims but it makes her and her children very vulnerable to retaliation.
Like Emilie says this man has great wealth and great power and surely sees himself as King of the World who is entitled to do exactly as he pleases.
A woman standing up to him is unfortunately in a very dangerous position.

Muslim Sharia law treats women badly. There is much abuse.
