Narcissistic triangulation is the act of bringing another person into the relationship to belittle the victim and make the victim ‘vie’ for the attention of the narcissist.

Wikipedia is the most amazing resource, with such a cornucopia of information about the most detailed topics of every kind. Want to know about every Interstate in the U.S., when the highway was built, where it runs, all the history, and why? Want to know about zillions of songs, who wrote them and very often why, the whole meaning of a song? Want to know about a myriad of obscure people, who they were, when they lived, what they did? It’s all there in Wikipedia. Well, most of it anyway. Including the most detailed specialized terminology, like what a “capsulotomy” is, or all this about “triangulation.” In a right-angled triangle, the square of the hypotenuse is equal to the sum of the squares of the other two sides? Nope, this ain’t about geometry; this is about psychology, with a whole different meaning!
I can’t resist mentioning this because it’s sad how some people are never satisfied. They always have to find something to complain about. I’ve heard academics, obsessed with precision, bitch and moan about Wikipedia, calling it “that storehouse of misinformation” just because it got a few little facts wrong here and there. They ought to quit their bellyaching. Nothing is perfect or ever was! What can we expect when millions of ordinary people (myself included) were needed to build an edifice of information on such a vast scale; that they’d get every detail right? Nonsense! We ought to be grateful for what we have, and what so many people have done for us, instead of carping at their petty failings. Roll on Wikipedia!

Hi SG – I loved that definition of Triangulation. Just perfect. I also want to add that in my pondering over the concept, I also see it as a method of gaining more power in a relationship than the partner. I think sociopaths want to gain as much power over their partners ( or others ) and triangulation is one of their juiciest choices because not only do they obtain power but they get to cause emotional anguish at the same time ( when they are dealing with their partner in what has been an agreed upon committed relationship ). Thanks for sharing and for keeping the site up and active. It’s important especially now due to all the social distancing that everybody is dealing with currently. The good news, though, is that it makes it a lot more difficult for sociopaths to use triangulation ( ha ha )!
Blessings and Thanks
