How to recognize and recover from the sociopaths – narcissists in your life › Forums › Lovefraud Community Forum – General › New law in India criminalizes love fraud
https://edition.cnn.com/2024/08/10/india/india-marriage-break-up-new-law-intl-hnk/index.html
Section 69 of the new statute criminalizes having sex with a woman “by making a promise to marry (her) without any intention of” doing so, or by “deceitful means” such as falsely promising career advancement or marrying under a fake identity.
The crime is punishable by up to 10 years’ imprisonment and a fine.
Though the law is new, the concept is not – many women have previously brought such cases to court, accusing men of luring them into sexual relationships by dangling promises of marriage.
Sept4 – thanks for posting this story. I read the whole thing. It points out the difficulties in judging what someone’s intentions are. It’s great that there’s a law against rape by deception, but enforcing it is extremely difficult.
Even in normal relationships – where no one is a sociopath – the two people can talk about a future together, have a physical relationship, and then one person gets cold feet. Is that a crime?
Still, in the most egregious cases – like when the perp makes up a fake identity to seduce someone – this should help.
