Editor’s note: Lovefraud received the following story from a reader whom we’ll call Allison23. She reveals how her ex-husband got her thrown into the psych ward — twice.
The sociopath in my life “saved” me from my abusive mother and got me out of the trailer park. I eventually earned 4 degrees, one of which was an MD.
Looking back, the relationship was always controlling, but he made me believe that he was doing what he did because he needed to “mold” me into the perfect woman because my parents “didn’t do a good job”. As soon as I started making more money than him, his violence escalated and I finally got the courage to leave him in the middle of the night. Little did I know this would be the start to the most difficult time of my life.
First, I’m mentally unstable
Three months later, he drove with my body half out of his vehicle in the presence of our 2 children. I was granted an ex parte emergency order of protection, but the court vacated the order because the GAL in our divorce case testified that I was making up the domestic violence because of the divorce and my abuser/sociopath told the judge that I was so mentally unstable that I chased after his car, opened up the car door while the car was in motion and caused my own injury to my right lower forearm.
He convinced the court that I was mentally unstable and the court ordered a psychiatric evaluation of me. After my order of protection was vacated, he threatened my patients, an employee, stole the thermostat from my home based office, and turned off the electricity in my home based office, ruining over $5k worth of vaccines and $800 worth of donor breastmilk. Subsequently I had to close my pediatric practice.
Next, I’m a kidnapper
My special needs daughter also disclosed to me that he had grabbed her neck, which prompted me to take the children and myself into a domestic violence program out of state. Once he found out I was gone, he got in front of a judge and told the judge that I kidnapped the kids and the FBI was looking for me, which of course was a lie.

At the time I had no lawyer because I was broke after spending over $100k in attorney fees in less than 6 months. I was court ordered to bring the children back and he was given temporary possession of the children, despite the court NEVER conducting a hearing that determined I endangered the children at this time. In fact, court proceedings concluded and determined that I had NOT endangered the children, despite him making allegations that the children were endangered while in my care.
Finally, I’m in the psych ward — twice
Since he’s had possession of the kids, he’s orchestrated me being picked up in 2 different states by the police with allegations that I’m mentally unstable, which lead to 2 evaluations in 2 different psych wards.
The first evaluation determined that I didn’t have a mental illness, but I had an abuser in need of help. Eight days later I was picked up again in a different state because my mother successfully petitioned the court ex parte for me to me admitted into a psychiatric ward involuntarily. After a 5 day hold I was diagnosed with “mood disorder unspecified” and sent home without any medication.
The same week I was discharged from the psych ward, his mother filed an order of protection against me falsely alleging that I was coming to her house threatening to assault her, buy a gun, and kidnap the children. All of the 4 dates and times of the alleged incidents I had an alibi (2 of the dates I was out of state, one of the dates I was at the State’s attorney office trying to have him arrested for illegal possession of a gun, and the last date in question I was admitted into the psych ward).
Affecting the children
My children have stated on recorded Zoom that he told them I bought a gun and plan to kidnap them, I got rid of their dog and bought another dog to look just like their dog in order to trick them, I’m a dangerous person and it’s going to be a long time before they can see me again, and that I put them in danger by hiring an alcoholic. My kids were also shown pictures of a family members bloody face and told that I hurt this family member. My oldest daughter is so traumatized that she has completely shut down and refuses to speak to me.
Two weeks ago I obtained an attorney and we now have a new GAL and Judge on the case. The new GAL has referred to him as “evil” and said that he needs a psych evaluation, so I’m hopeful that justice will be served in the very near future and my kids and I will be reunited so that we can begin the healing process.
