Pennsylvania State University, home of the storied Nittany Lions football team and its legendary coach, Joe Paterno, was rocked by allegations that one of Paterno’s former assistants, Jerry Sandusky, was charged with sexually assaulting eight young, disadvantaged boys.
The point of the article I posted earlier today, about former Pennsylvania State Senator Vincent Fumo, was abuse of power. This sex abuse scandal is a variation of the same theme. Sandusky’s inappropriate behavior went on for years, probably because no one wanted to challenge a football dynasty.
According to the grand jury report:
• In 1998, Sandusky brought an 11-year-old boy into a Penn State locker room shower and behaved inappropriately. The boy’s mother reported it to Penn State University police. After a lengthy investigation, the Centre County District Attorney decided there would be no criminal charges.
• In 2000, a janitor saw Sandusky in the showers with an 11- to 13-year-old boy pinned against the wall, performing oral sex. He was distraught as he told his fellow janitors and his supervisor what he witnessed. But most of the janitors were new employees, and they were afraid that if they reported what had happened, they would lose their jobs.
• In 2002, a Penn State graduate assistant witnessed Sandusky having anal sex with a 10-year-old boy in the locker room showers. The graduate assistant told Joe Paterno. Paterno told his supervisor, Athletic Director Tim Curley. There were a few meetings, but no official investigation. In the end, all that happened was that Sandusky was told he could no longer bring boys to Penn State. Then, when the grand jury investigated, both Curley and the university’s Senior Vice President for Finance and Business Gary Schultz, downplayed the incident.

Ex-Penn State coach charged with sex crimes
Paterno says all at Penn State were fooled by Sandusky
Louise,
Maybe the key is to be loyal but also keep control of your loyalty. Don’t let others use your loyalty as a leash. That’s what I did for 25 years. Actually, even longer, since my parents did the same thing to me.
skylar:
It’s a fine line. It’s a balancing act, but it can be done. We just have to be diligent.
Louise, yeppers! Loyal to the end, that’s me! But you know, I no longer let it be a NOOSE AROUND MY NECK TO HANG ME WITH, and In the past that’s what I have done!
When someone does something that is immoral, illegal or nasty, I cut the loyalty string then and there. No one deserves me to be loyal to them when they have done something BAD. Of course we all make mistakes, but some “mistakes” are DELIBERATE and therefore I don’t think they are something I can over look easily.
That’s what boundaries are for! We must set boundaries and limits of what is acceptable behavior and what is NOT. There we draw the line and cut the “loyalty” string.
If you rob a bank, or rape a child, my LOYALTY TO YOU IS OUT THE WINDOW!
FYI, when it comes to looking for pedophiles that live near you…I don’t know how it is in other states but here in California there is a website named Homefacts http://www.homefacts.com/offenders.html that is more accurate than the local CA Megan’s Law website, because it not only show CA sex offenders but it also shows out of state sex offenders that live near you. My ex doesn’t show up on CA Megan’s Law but he does on Homefacts. He is a registered sex offender in Illinois.
Hosanna, There are different levels of sex offenders, here it is levels 1-4 with 4 being the worst. In our state at least, level 3 and 4 are “mapped” and levels 1 and 2 are not “mapped” but have to be searched for by NAME not location. The Trojan Horse psychopath was a level 4 HIGH RISK in Texas, but Arkansas reassessed him as a level 2, “because he didn’t do these crimes IN ARKANSAS” so he was ONLY a level 2 and not listed by address, only by name.
I would bet my house that Sandusky will end up walking away a totally free man from all this. There is no longer any physical evidence and it is going to be his word against these now grown men. I think all the money and the good old boys network is going to prevail. I think it’s going to be like another Casey Anthony case…all the evidence will be there, but they just won’t be able to prove it…you watch.
Louise – I hope you get to keep your house. Something tells me this man is going to do life in the pen, let’s hope he like’s showering with a bunch of big boy’s with anger issue’s.
Hens, “showering with bunch of big boys with anger issues” LOL ROTFLMAO CHOKE SNORT snarf! Dang Hens, quit making this old woman laugh, you KNOW what happens when old women laugh! We have to go change our britches!
Hens:
I sure hope you are right! We shall see. How confident were we all that Casey Anthony was going to be convicted? Remember how shocked we were when she was set free? There was an absolute uproar over that case and I would be prepared to see it again. I hope I am wrong.
I read the other day where there was an attempt to kill Casey Anthony, not sure if it is true or not, but I think Sandusky will need to move to Boreno or Mongolia to be safe if he “gets off” on this charge, and they will have to keep him in solitary confinement to keep him from being killed in prison. So whatever happens to him in court is not going to be the “end of” what his life is.
Reading what the bio mother of the kid he adopted when he was 18, named Matt, that is standing by Sandusky, makes me think that that man is acting like a someone who was molested as a kid….if what the mother says is true. His ex wife doesn’t want her kids near Sandusky either, but he is taking them there to Sandusky’s house.
This whole thing is just ballooning into something huge like the explosion of Krakatoa (the world’s biggest volcano explosion) and only gonna get worse I think. It may “blow up” the entire Penn State University up before it is done.
