Defense attorneys for Jerry Sandusky, the former assistant football coach at Penn State who is accused of molesting 10 boys, may argue that the man suffers from histrionic personality disorder. So what is it? Lovefraud readers sent links to articles that explain:
What is histrionic personality disorder? on CNN.com.
What is histrionic personality disorder? on Health.Yahoo.net.
Louise, I have to believe that Sandusky will face consequences, somehow. Although, O.J. was found “not guilty,” and anything is possible, I guess.
OxD, I’m so sorry about your injury and the incompetence of the attending physicians!!!! I don’t trust the medical community, generally, especially “Specialists.” There once was a time when a Family Doctor delivered all of the children in the community, knew their family histories, knew each of his patient, by name, and practiced true medicine. Now, doctors practice “insured medicine,” which leaves true care for patients outside the office doors. Get well soon, OxD.
Truthspeak:
I want to believe Sandusky will face consequences, too, but look around…you just mentioned one…OJ…then just recently there’s been John Edwards, Casey Anthony and now Roger Clemens just walked away…it’s everywhere…why should I believe Sandusky will be any different? It’s thinking like this that got me in trouble with the spaths and narcissists in my life. Sigh 🙁
Louise;
I had this discussion last night. It does seem that more and more, high-profile criminals are being exonerated. I have no doubt that Roger Clemens was guilty of perjury and doping yet jurors seem to think otherwise, probably because in the selection process, defense attorneys look for those who lack critical thinking and are easily manipulated.
Let’s see what happens to Lance Armstrong, somebody who is not only a cheater but most likely is a sociopath…
Oh no!
It sounds like Sandusky’s defense lawyers took some lessons from OJ’s defense team.
They’re saying that the state police tainted the witnesses.

They’re going to put his wife up as a character witness.
Mark my words…there will be too much reasonable doubt…
BBE:
Yep, more and more are going free and I bet this will be one more…I will be so upset. There is no hope for us honest ones in this world…
Now Sandusky is a “class act.”

In a linked article, a psychiatrist comments on the personality disorder defense:
http://vitals.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2012/06/15/12242582-does-it-matter-if-sandusky-has-a-personality-disorder?lite
This comment in particular, I agree with:
“…it’s not uncommon for a person in legal trouble to claim they have a psychiatric disorder of some kind. She adds that it would be unusual for an older man to be diagnosed with the personality disorder late in life, especially because the condition is more common in women.”
I also thought it curious the defense would hinge on a disorder far more common in women than men.
However, I disagree with the following:
There’s no evidence that I know of that links personality disorder to pedophilia,” she says. Some pedophiles may have a personality disorder, and some with a personality disorder may be pedophiles. But there’s no correlation between the two, argues Gold, who also serves as the vice president of the American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law. “It’s apples and oranges. It’s not even apples and oranges; it’s apples and rocks.”
Some evidence suggests that sociopaths, for a variety of reasons, are more likely to be pedophiles. Many here certainly tell stories of sociopaths behaving inappropriately around children, or being interested in such pornography.
Here is an article, for those who are following this and may have missed it, about what Sandusky’s wife said today at the trial.
According to her, one boy was conniving and the other was clingy.

Blue Eyes, those comments just go to show how badly more education is needed. It’s a steep, uphill battle.
BBE:
Thanks for the info. You all may think I am exaggerating, but after reading the symptoms of HPD, OW has it. No kidding. I always wondered what was wrong with her. If anyone has been reading what I have said about her being very sexual…exuding sexual energy and always having to be the center of attention…look at me, look at me…OMG…this is her. I feel sorry that she has a disorder, but at the same time, now I finally know that I had been dealing with a psychotic person. Thank God I have not talked to her nor seen her in almost two years…I did not need that in my life. It was dreadful. What really confirmed it for me also is when it said in these articles that it is more common in women than in men…that really validated it for me…she exhibits every symptom…I watched it for five years.
