Research finds brain changes due to PTSD

New research has found a specific change in brain chemistry due to trauma. An article on Medscape.com says:

“Lower serotonin 1B levels were also strongly associated with age at first trauma. The earlier the trauma exposure, the greater the brain alterations and the greater the severity of PTSD symptoms, and the greater the risk of developing comorbidities,” senior author Alexander Neumeister, MD, associate professor of psychiatry at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City, told Medscape Medical News.

“These findings establish that trauma at a young age causes long-lasting neurobiological and psychological effects in survivors with PTSD. In other words, early-life trauma can interfere with normal brain development,” he said.

The article is somewhat technical, but lay readers like us can pretty much follow what is being discussed. To read the story, you need to register for Medscape.com, which is free.

    Hens,

Thanks. I was hoping there was some sort of computerized way, but if that’s what you guys do… I’ll log with a pen and paper.

Purewater, I don’t think there is a way to keep track of where you have posted. I try to just remember the thread or at least a key word. That way you can do a search for the thread.

Shalom, my IQ is 164 and I bothered to scroll up and see what you said. That sounded like a direct insult to her character. It indeed sounded like you called her a spath. I’m not scratching my head at all. I’d say that the moment you read about her previous profession, you had the urge to degrade her and label her, and now you’ve got to find a clever way to subtly smack her into her “place” without setting off the protective force in here….which would be a classic sociopath move on your part if you partake in such behavior.

My name doesn’t mean “I wish you peace.” It means “I catch pesky rodents.”

Panther, LOL!!!!! Shalom’s nasty, cutting remarks really don’t bother me because they really don’t have much to do with me. I post my life experiences for the benefit of those who truly want to know me, support me, look for lessons in our histories, and laugh a little whle we’re at it. I think it’s pretty common that there will be trolls along the way. It’s not the first time I’ve been targeted on an internet forum. (Wow, I’ve really been on the internet too long!).

And BTW, I’m so glad that people with higher IQs than me can point out an attack when they see it. I sometimes am not sure because it’s just so hard to believe someone would do that here.

I hope you find the peace you are seeking, Shalom. And try laughing a little, too. It helps with the negativity.

    Panther,
I think I’m going to coin a new term: “to get Panthered!”

It means: to be pounced on incisively by 164 IQ points!

I wouldn’t wish that on my worst enemy. ROTFLMAO.

    You just kill me!

Ahahaha, Sky, to get Panthered? Ehehehehe. Now I’m ROTFLMAO!

I’m gonna go hit the gym and hopefully when I get back, this mess will have been cleaned up a little bit 😀 It’s time for my kitty side to go climb imaginary trees whilst surrounded by a bunch of gorillas on steroids 😀 aka get rid of some energy.

Still laughing on my end, hehehe….

There are people who think all strippers are the scum of the earth (or former strippers). There is nothing you can do to change their opinions. But if anyone thinks I’m a spath, perhaps they should just go NC with me. Duh, that’s a no-brainer.

Thanks for the comic relief! …get panthered…. LOL!!!!! I’m off to the gym too.

    Hugs,

    Star
