New research has found a specific change in brain chemistry due to trauma. An article on Medscape.com says:
“Lower serotonin 1B levels were also strongly associated with age at first trauma. The earlier the trauma exposure, the greater the brain alterations and the greater the severity of PTSD symptoms, and the greater the risk of developing comorbidities,” senior author Alexander Neumeister, MD, associate professor of psychiatry at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City, told Medscape Medical News.
“These findings establish that trauma at a young age causes long-lasting neurobiological and psychological effects in survivors with PTSD. In other words, early-life trauma can interfere with normal brain development,” he said.
The article is somewhat technical, but lay readers like us can pretty much follow what is being discussed. To read the story, you need to register for Medscape.com, which is free.

Oxy,
People here USED to go to Mx but the drug gangs now own the border towns and it’s now dangerous.
There are NO free clinics and regular clinics are run by RNP. You have to get a Lonestar card and that means signing up for welfare and I will not do that.
The tests are VERY expensive b/c they charge first for a doctors office visit, then they charge to take your blood, they charge for the dr’s order to draw the blood, they charge to run the test, they charge for the report, and they charge again for the doctor to interpret the test, and finally they charge another doctor office visit to go over the test. So a test will easily run +$400. That’s what I don’t have, I have $100 to waste for a test that may not provide any info, but not $400 to waste.
I am pretty sure I am being a hypochondriac and that I am actually lazy.
Yep, it will be 1am as soon as it’s 2am. So maybe will try to sleep. Nt all.
Hens.
Put anything you think will easily tip over and also your heavy stuff on to the floor. Don’t move anything that will hurt your back, your well being is worth more than anything that might fall over if you get aftershocks.
a national company called Quest Diagnostics has an uninsured patient discount program that charges 40-50% discount on blood work. 1-866-697-8378. TSH is only $26.00 here in FL. I picked up the brochure last doc visit. It may help those who need it. They claim to have more than 3,000 blood tests discounted.

Sorry, didn’t post anymore. It was very late, just returned from a weird night out, and needed to rest my body. The thyroid is VERY important. Stress can make it go wacko. And a wacko thyroid has results similar to someone being overstressed. Seems to go hand in hand. Soimnotthecrazy1, so keep treating that thyroid of yours. Katy, call that number and find a cheap solution to get it tested.
Sheesh, what a weird ending to my night out. After Tintin, I met up with my best friend I know for 20 years on her request. She had a burnout. We had a whole evening talking, was very interestig and nice. But towards the end there were 2 incidents: the first was some guy trying to hit on my friend, but he did that by comparing us… I had the face of a social worker, a nice girl who did not care so much for her appearance as my friend did. My friend was great though, she told him that he made a mistake and needed to apologize to me while she went to the bathroom. The way he squirmed and crawled then. And then I told him that he should try to flirt with my friend without treating me like a sidekick, and that it’s silly to do that with twenty year long friends, because it revealed more about him and his preconceptions than it revealed anything of her or me. I asked him where his mates were and chitchatted with them for a couple of minutes.
The weirdest though was seeing another female friend of mine, someone I used to meditate with for years. She asked me how I had been doing since she last saw me (end of August), but then when I did, she started to finish my sentences, projecting emotions and mental processes onto me which were entirely not what I was going to say to her. I stopped her and pointed out that she was not truly listening. And then she ranted at me how I ALWAYS talked so and so. It was such a vicious attack that I never had expected from her, and I left with an angry goodbye. I realized she probably just was not up for it, but she could have just say so instead of lashing out to me. She had mentioned her mother having cancer again, and I waited for her to tell more, to listen, but then she changed the subject back to me and we ended up in that weird total communication breakdown, while all I actually wanted to say to her was that I feel good again. Now, I don’t really know what to do with her behaviour: nothing at all, contact her and tell her that I realize she was not open for a deeper conversation and next time she can just say so, ask about her mother’s wellbeing…
Katy ~ Sorry I wasn’t around for the thyroid discussion last night.
I had hyperthyroidism, overactive thyroid. I lost so much weight, my bones stuck out, my hands shook, my skin turned to paper and I was a nervous wreck. I blamed it all on stress. When my heart rate went up to over 130 and I could not breathe, I finally went to a Dr. The treatment was having a large part of my thyroid destroyed using radioactive iodine.
The danger of your heart rate going so high, is that you can throw a clot and have a stroke. In other words it is nothing to fool around with. Please take care of yourself. I pray you will find the money to have the test done.
Sky ~ before I had the iodine treatment, I was put on medication to slow down the thyroid function. It was not effective in doing that BUT I encountered the worst muscle spasms I have ever had, in every muscle, even my fingers. I’m sure, if yours disappeared after the x was no longer poisioning you, that was it, but I did have them as soon as I started taking this medication. By the way, Dr. insisted the medication would not cause them. They stopped after I stopped taking the meds.
Hens ~ any aftershocks?
I am watching right now on the Discovery channel “How Evil are You?” It’s a good documentary where they are examining brains of people and trying to figure out what makes a psychopath. I wish I could watch it all, but I can’t as I am leaving to drive nearly seven hours to my mom’s today.
