Advice for women not involved with sociopaths

In the wake of Weinergate, CNN posted an article entitled, Stop calling Huma Abedin a victim. Abedin, of course, is Anthony Weiner’s wife, who I’m sure was, at the very least, embarrassed by the scandal, and perhaps angry enough to consider divorce.

The article quotes a couple of authors telling women to choose not to be victims. Instead, women should choose to define their own happiness. Oh, there are a couple of caveats—the advice doesn’t apply to women who fear for their safety or are facing financial ruin. But there is no discussion of what to do when your relationship is so emotinally abusive that you are psychologically traumatized.

In short, this story offers advice for women coping with infidelity whose partners are not sociopaths. Which is fine—these women need advice as much as anyone. But the article also reinforces society’s “just get over it” attitude, which makes life difficult for women dealing with true exploitation.

Star-thanks girl. I really do hope you get to quit your office job. I know how it feels to really kinda be over what you’re doing. I am trying to get this job and unfortunately it’s just about getting paid. That’s how nursing is to me-to get caught up financially and throw as much as possible into savings for my future career.

I’m having a hard time today with all this. Everything started happening so fast with this job. I actually interviewed this afternoon and should know something tomorrow. I can’t help but be scared about all this. My feelings are hard for me and it appears that everyone else is entertained by them, which makes me feel worse. I don’t know what to do because my heart hurts so bad and now I just feel uncomfortable talking about it here.
Everything about us was so normal today-the way things usually are. I saw her again this evening when she got home and everything was good. I’m going to miss her so bad.

DUPED-thanks. can you call me Lizzy or Liz instead of EB because I get really confused by it. I keep thinking you’re talking to the real EB instead of me.

    Star:

I just thought Hens was entertained by your dating that’s all…in a good way! That’s the way I took it. I am very confused as to what is going on? 🙁
