Yesterday I happened to be watching CNN as the verdict in the Casey Anthony trial was announced. Like much of America, I was stunned that she was acquitted. From the reports I’ve seen about Anthony’s pathological lying and lack of concern about her missing daughter, I am confident that she exhibits sociopathic traits. A criminal profiler came out and said on national television that she is a psychopath. See:
Profiler says letters show Casey Anthony to be a psychopath
All of us at Lovefraud know what sociopaths/psychopaths are capable of. So I was more stunned by one of the so-called CNN pundits, Dr. Frank Farley, who came on the show later. He said that the prosecution’s theory of Casey Anthony’s motive for murder was ludicrous. No mother, he claimed, would kill her child simply so she could go out and party.
Farley actually posted his views in a blog piece on CNN, in an article called Infanticide in order to party: A nonsense motive. He wrote:
No credible motivational psychology that I know of would support that a single mother who seemed to love her child and who had lots of back-up parenting, in the grandparents and perhaps even from a brother, would go through the careful planning and complex, unpredictable, scary process of killing and disposing of her child in order to get a bit more free time.
This could not be true, unless she was seriously mentally ill, and no available evidence showed that. To go against that deep human instinct to take care of a child, and instead kill that child, demands a very significant reward in the opposite direction, and partying doesn’t rise to that level.
What sane human being could wake up in the morning and say, “Gee, I could have a fun time if I killed my daughter.” There was also no evidence that Caylee was a difficult child whose behavior could lead her mother into a homicidal rage. This whole scheme goes against our deepest instincts rooted in thousands of years of evolution.
Obviously, the guy knows nothing about sociopaths. These disordered individuals have no love motivation. They are capable of killing for the flimsiest of reasons. Take the case of Diane Downs, cited in Dr. Robert Hare’s book, Without Conscience. She shot her three children in 1983 so she could carry on an affair.
ABC News recently aired interviews with Diane Downs, along with a clinical diagnosis: psychopath. Watch the videos here:

Professor Farley
Now here’s what is really scary: Frank Farley, Ph.D., is a psychologist and professor at Temple University, and former president of the American Psychological Association. He teaches educational psychology to graduate students. Here’s his biography:
Frank Farley, Ph.D., Temple University College of Education
Farley has come up with this goofy theory of “Type T Personalities.” The “T,” he says, stands for “thrill-seeking,” and certain people are driven to a life of constant stimulation and risk-taking. In fact, he recently wrote an op-ed piece in the Los Angeles Times, claiming that this is why politicians cheat on their wives. I mentioned it in a recent blog post:
More on powerful men behaving badly
Actually, cheating politicians are probably displaying their sociopathic tendencies—grandiosity, overactive sex drive, recklessness, sense of entitlement. But Farley doesn’t get it. He also doesn’t get that it is quite possible for a woman to kill her child for barely any motivation.
And this is what he is teaching to his educational psychology students. No wonder so many people do not know that the sociopathic personality disorder exists.
Oxy!! LOLOLOL!! Yeah, having worked at a “day spa” those biatches are tough!! Brazilian waxing…no problem..lol BUT it does hurt/burn/sting/ I don’t care what they say! LOLOL
I used to have my eyebrows and upper lip waxed and that smarted but I can’t even imagine how it would hurt to have a wax “there”! LOL Not for me! But I can imagine DOING it to some folks I know….slowwwwwwly though! Oh, Oxy you are badddd! BOINK!!!!
Oxy,
Nah, you’re GOOD! You know just where to strike…LOLOL
It doesn’t hurt that much. No matter what part of your body you wax, it only hurts on the first wax strip. After that the nerves get numb and you can hardly feel it.
It’s just unreal that anyone wants to watch this stuff.
I have a theory about that. I think that there are so many shallow spaths out there with no idea what real life is supposed to be like, so there is a demand for “reality” tv that shows spaths how to interact with others. Of course it’s dramatic and over the top because otherwise the spaths would get bored and slither away from the tv.
Not all spaths watch tv, of course. There are different types.
Have you seen this new commercial for some car that they have nnow. A guy comes on and says “I moved home after college and I don’t know what’s wrong with my mom, she went to bed tonight without fixing my dinner.” then it shows him microwavin a TV dinner. He says “but I can fix dinner” then he goes to bed and passxes his parents’ closed door and says “good night” to the closed door. Then the camera cuts to the parents out having FUN!
There is another one with a girl at a computer and she says “I had to get aggressive with my parents, they only have 19 friends on FB” and it cuts to the parents out having fun, then the girl says “I have 678 and that’s real life.” LOL
Yea, that’s a couple of cute commercials, but unfortunately too TRUE with some kids. They don’t have a REAL life just games on the computer or FB….or par-tay like Casey! Or watch the bikini wax job of some “reality” show. REALITY?????? That ain’t real! LOL
ps Sky, maybe you don’t think it hurts, maybe you got the stoic gene for pain, I think it hurts like heck! LOL
Just like the incredible increase in autistic children, so too is the increase in the mentally disturbed. I can’t help but wonder what role media plays and, more specifically, technology. I also wonder about bloodlines. I can’t say specifically why, though. Something I read in the bible and it seemed related, but I haven’t had the time to go back and do the research.
What strikes me from all the post-reports the most is the rejection of the mother by Casey. It seems funny in light of the defense blaming the father for alleged abuse. It is my belief that was completely made up. If you saw the mother’s interview by the police – the one where she came off like a rabid bulldog – at first it seems like she is the lunatic. But, from my experience with my spath and his treatment of his family, there are lots of similarities here.
The more they ‘loved’ him or tried to, the more he rejected them. He said they were trying to make him think he was crazy and he wasn’t. Of course, they knew him better than he would ever know himself, right? One day I walked in on a telephone conversation and I’ve never heard anyone speak to a parent like that. It was cold, calculating and filled with hate and projection, foul language spewed out of his mouth. And all they were trying to do was check in on him to be sure he was ok (he limited contact with them for gobs of time).
It seems to me that the father probably “checked out” of the problems at home between the women a long time ago, and I look to the brother for similarities in behavior. I don’t believe he abused her, either. I think her object of hatred was Cindy. If you remember the interview with Casey’s former fiance, he said that she broke it off because she was jealous of Caylee. Casey thought he loved her more than he loved Casey. Very telling!
The bottom line for me is this jury was snake-bit. They were lazy and irresponsible. The two or three of them that have come forward are in their 30’s, I believe. That is close enough in age to her to give some kind of benefit of the doubt, as it were. They didn’t seem to have a clue the responsibility their oath held them to and I don’t believe they cared, either. They just wanted to get out of there. Eleven hours isn’t long enough to hang a jury to ensure she could be charged again at a new trial, which is what they should have done when they knew she was not innocent but they couldn’t in all good conscience give her the death penalty. Hogwash! All they had to do was make a call to the judge and tell him their concerns, and ask his advice about what to do in that situation. They simply couldn’t be bothered. It was too hard, the trial had been too long and they didn’t want to spend the time it would have taken to review the evidence they had and fill in the blanks. I found a direct quote from one of them that said as much. It is too bad they can’t be held in contempt for their flagrant disregard of that oath.
You can probably tell I’m still livid. Somewhere a village is missing 12 idiots and pretty soon they are all going to cash in on this travesty of justice one way or another.
The prosecuter should have taught the jury about “circumstantial evidence”! The jurors were drummed that the forensic evidence HAD to PROVE she killed Caylee.
What about Scott Peterson case? What about before “forensics” were even possible…dna testing? etc…..???
The prosecuter should have stressed this and taught the jury that CIRCUMSTANTIAL EVIDENCE is enought to convict a person of murder.
This is why the jury made their decision.
Another “Satan” let loose to roam the earth…
I predict someone will murder her…and hide the “evidence” and never get caught!
Law of Karma.
There’s another murder case I just ran across that Frank Farley ought to read. I’ve said more about Fiona Donnison’s murder of her two children on the How to Spot a Narcissist thread.
I believe that spaths get away with a lot of what they get away with precisely because of this (false) mind-set of Farleys. If the majority of the jury beleives as he does, than wala…she goes free.
We, out here in the free world are also easily duped by this tendancy to give the benifit of the doubt. We just can’t get our minds around their motives, behaviors, ability to deceive, and just plain evil….it does not compute. Until, that is, we are educated by the school of hard knocks!!!
I have been reading a lot of true crime novels, lately. One thing that comes up again and again is the arrogance of the offender. It is usually their reckless arrogance that gets them caught.
Consider Anthony. What a mix of orginized and disorganized crime.
She researched chloraform, and other options. Organized plotting. Then, drove around for God knows how long with a stinking corpse in her car. Disorganized.
She had the arrogance (and stupidity) to think that law enforcement wouldn’t check out her story about ZG and her job at Universal studios….the apartment that she dropped Caylee off at….It’s as if she didn’t give it any thought at all.
It was because of this lack of forthought, that I didn’t buy the duct tape as a red herring…as something staged after the accident….she wasn’t smart enough.
But right on the heels of that thought was that SHE WAS DUMB enough, if ya know what I mean.
Anyway, my point is that she got away with it presicely because the jury couldn’t beleive a mother could deliberately and in cold blood murder her child. They were filtering her act through their own (NORMAL) experiences. They projected their normal selves on a sociopath, and the sociopath got away with murder.
