On Friday, June 22, 2012, the verdicts were announced in two important child molestation trials that had been going on simultaneously in Pennsylvania:

Jerry Sandusky, the former assistant football coach of Penn State University, was convicted of 45 of the 48 child molestation charges against him. And, Monsignor William J. Lynn was found guilty of essentially contributing to a cover-up of sexual predators among Catholic priests in the archdiocese of Philadelphia. The priests had been molesting children for years. Lynn was the first high-ranking church official to be prosecuted for failing to protect children.

The Philadelphia Inquirer has reported on both of these cases extensively. You can read more about them here:

Complete coverage: Scandal at Penn State

Complete coverage: Clergy abuse case

In both of these cases, sordid details of men using their positions of prestige and power to seduce and manipulate children were aired in public. The eight young men who testified in the Jerry Sandusky trial were incredibly brave, and prosecutors in the church trial were able to introduce into evidence decades worth of rape and molestation charges. For victims everywhere, many of whom probably thought they would never be believed or see any modicum of justice, the verdicts are great victories.

But here is the real change brought about by these trials: Big, powerful institutions are now on notice. They can no longer sacrifice the innocents in order to preserve their reputations and protect their treasuries. Whether it is the Holy Roman Catholic Church or Penn State Football, the hierarchies will be held responsible for the crimes of their representatives.

According to the Inquirer, since priest abuse allegations first started surfacing in the mid-1980s, more than 3,000 civil lawsuits have been filed, and the Catholic Church has paid out more than $3 billion in settlements. Dioceses have closed parishes and sold property to cover the costs. The Diocese of Wilmington, Delaware, filed for bankruptcy.

Read Sex-abuse crisis is a watershed in the Roman Catholic Church’s history in America, on Philly.com.

Penn State University, with two officials already indicted for perjury related to the Sandusky case, anticipates more criminal proceedings and an onslaught of civil suits. The university has already embarked on damage control. As soon as Sandusky was declared guilty, the university announced a program to offer cash settlements to the victims.

Read: Bob Ford: In Sandusky case, Penn State tries to get ahead of civil actions, on Philly.com.

(By the way, more Sandusky victims, besides the 10 listed in the trial, have come forward. Read: Jerry Sandusky trial did not include all of his alleged victims, on ABCNews.go.com.)

So, for all of us at Lovefraud, all of us who have been manipulated, molested and abused, these verdicts are worth celebrating. Evil was exposed. Evildoers are going to prison. Enablers of evil are paying the price for averting their eyes, shutting their mouths and failing to act.

All of us who are fighting the good fight should feel encouraged. Perhaps the time is coming when we can go up against the rich and powerful—and win.

Tzzzzzzzzzzz…….I saw some of this while I was in an office, this morning.

“Joe Paterno did not know that ‘Sanspathsky’ was a pedophile.” Seriously? What else would one call someone who’s molesting a kid in a locker room? A plumber?

Jayzus……this whole thing stinks like 10-day-old tuna.

OxD, I sure hope that Karmageddon visits every one of the morons that failed to take action, and then visits Sanspathsky, TWICE.

    (more gutteral noises)

COMPLETE ASIDE, HERE: I want to credit whomever came up with “Karmageddon.” I really do. This is the most hilarious thing, and very, very certain.

Please, whomever came up with this, accept my most sincere appreciation!!!!

Ana: Please post your word in the Urban Dictionary as I did with the word dupey. I posted it under psychology, psychopathy, psychopath, etc.

    http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=dupey

You DO deserve recognition for that word and once you submit it, they will approve it and publish it in the Urban Dictionary. 🙂

You can do that right here:

“Karmageddon” is as good as “relation-shit” which Hens coined!

Yea, I really do hope that these creeps get what is coming to them!

As far as Paterno, I do not have a great deal of empathy or sympathy for an old geezer who put the “welfare” of his football team ahead of the welfare of children….I don’t give a big rat’s behind just how many rah rah rah foot ball games he won, in fact, I am against the sport due to the head injuries caused by the “sport” in children and young adults (worked too long in head and spinal cord injury medicine) and they are finding out now that all those mini-concussions are brain killers so I think the “sport” should be banned for anyone under age 18. Just my humble opinion…but as far as sports figures who sacrifice children for their “sport” well….you guys know how I feel about pedophiles of any sort, or anyone who enables for or covers up for them or turns a blind eye. OFF WITH THEIR HEADS! Starting at their big toe. Chop chop! KARMAGEDDON!!!

Guys, I just had a shocker. Not sure what to make of it. In a way it just increases cog-dis. Makes me doubt myself even more.
Some of you remember I came here 3 years ago, trying to recover from spathy addict BF, but after awhile was recast into unresolved issues from my marriage to x military hub.
For about a year, I have been re-opening old questions about my marriage, my husbands affair, and the devastation of my marriage.
There was so much gas-lighting, so much cog-dis, and so much trauma bonding, that I believed that, at the time I just hadn’t dealt with the truth….had just continued to believe lies, and that I was just beginning to really deal with the truth, even though it was long in the past….like 16 years ago.
I began to really believe the Navy sent hub to sexual addiction treatment in Maryland…Bathesda, a National Military Hospital…it made sense.
I just found evidence on line that his ship was legitimately deployed to Baltimore for re-fit.
This evidence included stories by other sailor’s, of how hard it was to be away from loved one’s during the Thanksgiving and Christmas Holiday’s…I remember vivedly.
    I was wrong.
I still think he got the neighbor girl pregnant, and I still think he was up to his eyebrows in deceit, but how do I reconcile the fact that my perceptions were wrong?

    Kim,
So? What about all the other things he did? What about all the other lie’s? You are analyzing way to much. It got to the point with my X that I could not believe ANYTHING that came out of his mouth. And I am sure he was telling the truth some of the time. And we know they mix the truth in with the lie’s. But like the little boy that cried wolf, what do you do?
Dont let this consume so much of your life. So what if you were wrong about something. That does not make him a saint.
I mean will you ever really know the whole truth and nothing but the truth concerning this guy??????? NO…so stop rat now ~! Think of something else.
