Lovefraud invites you to complete a survey about your experience with a sociopath/psychopath/narcissist in order to help professionals diagnose this disorder properly.

Two days ago, the American Psychiatric Association released a draft of the fifth edition its Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM 5). This book is the standard classification of mental disorders used by mental health and other professionals. The revision has been underway for a decade.

A work group of 11 doctors and psychologists focused on the section about personality and personality disorders. They have recommended significant changes to the description of antisocial personality disorder, which is also referred to as sociopathy and psychopathy. In fact, one of the suggestions is to change the name of the personality disorder to “antisocial/psychopathic type.”

The new description of the disorder is much closer to what most of us at Lovefraud have experienced. You can read the description here:

Antisocial/Psychopathic Type

The American Psychiatric Association has invited public comment on the draft of DSM 5, and Lovefraud is taking the doctors up on their invitation. We thought the best way to do it would be to survey our readers, asking you how well the proposed description of antisocial/psychopathic type matches your experience with one (or more) of these individuals.

Please take the survey. This is serious, so be thoughtful and accurate in your responses. It will probably take you about 15 minutes, so please start it when you are sure you have time to complete it.

The survey will be open until March 3, 2010. After that, we will tabulate and analyze the data. We will prepare a report of the findings for the American Psychiatric Association. The results will also be published on Lovefraud.

Midlifecrisis, Really spot on video of “guys in ties” psychopaths, but you’re right….it goes into the physiology, the lack of empathy, and the dispicablity that is the difference between “US” and “them”. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Kim – we who have been through the experience with a psychopath probably know a lot more than is communicated in the video, but it could be a useful tool for educating others who are in the dark and still under the assumption that all psychopaths are serial killers and behind bars.

You may also find this link of interest – it outlines some silly suggested changes proposed for the DSM V and gives an overview of the process in developing this manual …

You’re most welcome One Step and Shabbychic 🙂 I am constantly trawling the net reading articles etc about psychopathy / sociopathy / ASPD so I like to share the best of what I find. I think the video is quite basic but provides a coherent introduction to psychopathy for anyone who knows nothing about it – show it to friends and family if you’re blue in the face trying to explain to them! It does highlight the devastation brought by them quite well I think even though it focusses on workplaces.

Psychopathy is my new favourite subject lol

Regarding what to call N/P/S/A. Someone once said “sometimes the answer is right in front of you”. Anyway . . the one thing we seem to agree on is: That they are EVIL.
I was trying to think if there are people (that are NOT N/P/S/A) that are also EVIL.
I couldn’t think of any, but just in case there are . . why not call them “EVIL-N/P/S/A type”? That should cover it.

    Midlife, and all,

Great video. I notice that the Australian’s and English are opening up their news services to this kind of information. Airing this stuff on tv. But we won’t do that here. Here we make tv shows with the psychopaths as the ‘stars’ (lots of reality tv benefits from featuring the antics of these assholes).

I am going to email this vieo to friends and family. Thanks!

I got me some EB MOJO!!;)

I also got the judge’s siggie putting my son back on the insurance and stating I can remove the spath so I no longer have to pay his portion!! Get to take him off the car insurance too…and I have temp sole custody of our minor son. He can’t pick him up from school or even visit with him (not that he has tried) without supervision. I feel sooo much better and safer…

    Dear Myboys,

GREAT!!! TOWANDA!!! Hang in there. It may not come over night, but you are making PROGRESS in degrees and that is a GOOD thing. It didn’t happen over night, and it won’t get OK over night either, but you will SURVIVE and PROSPER and come out the other side of this dark tunnel a brighter, stronger and better person. We learn from our challenges and you are meeting them and learning and making some progress in your dire situation.

I remember when I was living in an RV trailer in hiding from my Ps and their dupes, and feeling like I had lost EVERYTHING, but I am making a “come back” and back in my own home and at least for the moment SAFE!

Getting supervised visitation and keeping your son away from him is a GREAT thing. They WILL use their kids as ammunition to hit at you, so sooner or later he would have pulled that crap, so GREAT way to go!! (((Hugs)))) and prayers!
