A Lovefraud reader asked me to write about the Bill Cosby scandal. A total of 27 women have publicly come forward to tell their stories of being sexually assaulted by the famous comedian.
A complete list of the women who have accused Bill Cosby of sexual assault, on Slate.com.
As I read the accounts, I kept seeing virtually the same story, over and over.
Many of the women were young models and actresses who claim Cosby made a pretense of offering them career advice. One woman, however, was a 19-year-old waitress who said Cosby offered her a ride home and then assaulted her. Another woman was 19 when Cosby approached her in a gift shop at the Las Vegas Hilton, where he was performing, and invited her backstage. She says she was drugged, and woke up to find him having sex with her in the green room bathroom.
At this point the shocking realization hit me: This could have happened to me.
Atlantic City Magazine
From 1978 through 1982 I was editor of Atlantic City Magazine. It was my first job out of college.
The job sounds more prestigious than it was. Casino gambling had just become legal in New Jersey, and Atlantic City’s first casino opened a few weeks after I graduated from college. Atlantic City Magazine was a startup publication. I was not only the first editor; I was the first employee.
I had majored in magazine journalism in college, and founded a campus magazine. But I think the prime reason I got the job in Atlantic City was because I was in the right place at the right time.
Arranging the Cosby interview
Atlantic City Magazine frequently published interviews with the headline entertainers who performed at the casinos. Sometime around 1980, when I was 24 years old, Bill Cosby, who regularly appeared in Atlantic City, agreed to be interviewed.
I needed to finalize the time and place where our writer would meet the comedian. But Cosby wasn’t available — he was playing tennis with a casino executive. So in this era before cell phones, I drove over to the indoor tennis courts.
After making the arrangements with a casino PR person, I, along with a few others, watched Cosby play tennis.
As the game was coming to an end, Cosby announced that he wanted to go to the famous White House Sub Shop. But he didn’t have a car. So as the casino folks were trying to figure out how to get him to the sub shop, Cosby pointed at me and said, “She’ll take me.”
Driving Bill Cosby
I was astounded. Everybody looked at me, and I said I could take him.
So, when Cosby finished playing tennis, we got into my car. The car was something plain and white that Atlantic City Magazine rented for me — certainly not what I assume the TV star was accustomed to driving in.
I was star struck. During the 15 minutes that it took to drive from the tennis courts to the sub shop, I tried to engage Cosby in conversation. He didn’t say much. But he did spit out the window.
When we arrived at the sub shop, I stopped the car, let him out and drove away.
It never occurred to me to go in with him, be a groupie, order subs, or make sure he got back to the casino. That’s how naive I was.
Dodged a bullet
Later, realizing that I’d let an opportunity to make an important connection slip through my fingers, I berated myself for my stupidity.
But now, after reading the accounts of all the young women who claim that Cosby assaulted them, I can’t help but wonder if the same thing could have happened to me.
Maybe Cosby assumed that I’d go into the White House with him, and drive him back to the casino. Then, perhaps he would have invited me backstage. I know I would not have questioned his intentions. I didn’t understand then that rich, famous, powerful men took advantage of young women.
Had Bill Cosby done the same thing to me that he allegedly did to all those other young women, I know one thing. I would have been severely traumatized.
So perhaps I was lucky that I drove away.

Bill Cosby’s legacy, recast: Accusers speak in detail about sexual assault allegations, on WashingtonPost.com.
What do Bill Cosby, the Duggars, and Rachel Dolezal have in common? Sociopathic lies, deception, cults and BEING EXPOSED! We know all about Cosby’s rapist and sexual predatory ways over the last 50 years. He has the money, fame, legal pit bulls, fake persona, and yes”.AGE to get away with his evil, hideous behavior and CON the unsuspecting, uninformed American public. But what about the Duggars and where do they fit into this?
The Duggars, via reality TV (“19 and Counting”) which by the way is not reality, presented themselves as a large and loving extremely evangelical Christian family. What they didn’t present was that their oldest son, Josh, molested four of his sisters and a babysitter. Because of their so called Christian values, local connections and subsequent fame on reality TV, the Duggars were able to bury their scandal up until now. Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar sat for an interview with Fox News’s Megyn Kelly to discuss their son Josh’s molestation of five children.
Cosmopolitan.com writes this about the interview:
What viewers got was a long defense of the Duggar parents, a minimization of Josh’s crimes, and a fuller illustration of why a misogynist “purity culture” is bad for girls, boys, and sexual assault victims in particular. What the Duggars proved is that their own self-interest in gaining status, influence, and money outweighed the needs of their own daughters and that Michelle and Jim Bob aren’t just kooky religious extremists, but parents capable of remarkable manipulation and cruelty.
The Duggars’ own version of Josh’s numerous molestations remains a bit muddled. Josh touched the girls including his sisters, two of whom (Jill and Jessa) will also sit down with Kelly this week over their clothes while they were sleeping, Jim Bob said, and the girls weren’t even aware. Josh confessed, and according to Michelle they put “safeguards” in place. Jim Bob said authoritatively, “Nothing like that ever happened again in the girls’ bedrooms.”
And it didn’t. Instead it happened on the couch.
Again, Jim Bob took great pains to clarify that it wasn’t like this was some sort of terrible violation. It was just a little sexual groping of one’s sleeping sisters.
“This was not rape or anything like that,” he assured Kelly and the Fox viewing audience. “This is like touching somebody over their clothes.”
And it was. Until it wasn’t.
“There were a couple incidents where he touched them under their clothes,” Jim Bob said. “But it was a few seconds.” In other words, Josh comes to his parents to say he’s molested his sisters in their bedroom. They don’t do much beyond feel “devastated” (that word comes up a lot in the interview), watch him closely, and tell him not to do it again. He does it again, this time on the couch. They feel devastated. They watch him closely and tell him not to do it again. He does it again, this time under their clothes. At some point he also molests a babysitter. They feel devastated.
After the third time, they decide to get Josh “help” which doesn’t involve actual trained professionals or licensed therapists, but rather a Christian friend who needed some help with home repairs. Josh goes there, he comes home, his parents take him to the police station, a cop (who is now serving a 56-year sentence for child pornography) gives him a stern talking-to, Josh asks for forgiveness, and everyone moves on. To a reality TV show where the family makes thousands with every episode.
Perhaps the most disturbing part of the story, though, isn’t that the Duggar parents gave Josh three strikes against his sisters before taking any action; it wasn’t that they never actually got him (or, it seems, the girls he molested) professional help from a licensed therapist. The most disturbing part of the story wasn’t even captured on Fox at all. What should disgust us the most and permanently remove the Duggars from both television and their gilded moral high horse is how they raised their kids in the aftermath of the abuse.
Key to the Duggar philosophy is sexual purity. In order to be a good, desirable, moral, and honorable person, you must remain “pure” until marriage. Purity is especially important for girls. To not be “pure” is to be, obviously, soiled, dirty, undesirable. While girls have the responsibility to guard their purity, men, who are always authority figures over women, are in charge of controlling and surveilling the girls to make sure they stay in line. The Duggar girls could not date; they had to be “courted,” which essentially meant that a local young man would select the one he wanted and the two could go out under the watchful eye of a chaperone sometimes Josh. The girls do not kiss or touch young men until their wedding day ”..

So, who are the Duggars? The Duggars are different than your standard evangelical Christians ”“ they’re followers of a particularly scary fundamentalist sect (cult) known as the QUIVERFULL movement which adheres to a deeply patriarchal (brainwashing of women) and highly authoritarian set of beliefs about gender and culture.
For more revealing information on QUIVERFULL research it online.
This is sociopathic mind control and brainwashing at it’s finest. Cosby and the Duggars are bedmates.
Speaking of bedmates maybe Cosby and Rachel Dolezal ought to hookup. After all, they’re both liars and con artists, she doesn’t have a cult following yet but Cosby can show her how (in more ways than one) and she’s definitely getting her more than 15 minutes of fame.
Interesting twist…AIG Homeowers Insurance Company is suing him to make sure they do not have to cover any payout would the victims win their cases: This was on TMZ
“Bill Cosby is being sued by a company that fears it might be on the hook if the comedian defamed 3 of his accusers by calling their claims BS.
Cosby’s homeowners insurance company has filed a lawsuit claiming it has absolutely no duty to pay a judgment stemming from the sexual assault allegations and denials. Many policies cover various misdeeds of the homeowners, but AIG Property Casualty Company says it is not responsible for claims arising out of sexual misconduct.
AIG not only wants to block Cosby, it has also named 3 accusers — Tamara Green, Therese Serignese and Linda Traitz as defendants. All 3 claim Cosby not only molested them but defamed them when he called them liars.
AIG wants a judge to tell them all … don’t even try to collect a judgment from the company.”
GOOD! AIG must feel strongly that Cosby is going to lose this one which could open the door for more lawsuits based on what these documents reveal. Not only that but AIG should drop his policy altogether stating that “it’s in the best interest of the company not to insure the Cosby’s”. I would think at this point AIG wouldn’t even want to be associated with Cosby. The more fallout, the better!
Knownow…makes you wonder if his home owners policy paid out in the court case he tried to avoid last time & now his insurance company is avoid the same fate. Clearly AIG’s legal department knows that they could be on the hook for millions.
Either way Cosby’s lawyers are loving all of these suits coming against him = more $$$$$$$$$ money for them.
Glad that Ms Allred & Ms Bloom have put so much pressure on Cosby even the insurance company is worried. Looks like all of his victims will be awarded money & hopefully they will be able to depose Cosby & Mrs Cosby before he makes a settlement offer. The world needs to know the truth about this evil man otherwise they will always say the victims were just “after his money”. Were we know the truth = he is a sociopath!!!
But I will be satisfied if his victims are awarded a settlement for the hell they endured by Cosby.
Bill Cosby’s 1995 sexual assault lawsuit would “EMBARRASS” him if unsealed? Yes, that’s what his lawyer really said! “It would be terribly embarrassing for this material to come out” he said. Cosby’s attorney said the deposition would reveal not only details of the assault, but intimate details about his client’s drug use, marriage and sex life.
Well, we already know about his drug use, i.e. his drugging and sexual assault of 45 women (and more yet to come forward) not to mention his partying at the Playboy mansion where there were copious amounts of drugs for the taking, and in his case, giving.
We all know his marriage was and is a sham and a joke and that his wife is either brain-washed, greedy or both. We all know about his sick sex life that, when he’s not on the road being a sexual predator and a threat to any woman within eyesight, he’s at home masquerading as the dutiful husband. After all, he did father five children with his wife and one (that we know of) with another woman.
Now, I don’t know why he’d be “embarrassed” because that would imply he has feelings, which he doesn’t, and morals, which he definitely doesn’t have because he’s an evil psychopath. He doesn’t feel anything except anger because he’s been exposed and unsealing those documents would prove and confirm him to be the monster we all know that he is.
Since he’s not going to be thrown behind bars for the rest of his miserable life like he should be, having people know the truth about his disgusting behavior is the very least his victims deserve.
The lawyer is using “Pity Play” to manipulate the Judge…classic sociopath behavior. Hope the Judge laughed at this lawyer and now will proceed to expose the truth to the world about Evil cosby!
The judge responded to his attorneys request “why would he be embarrassed by his own version of the facts?” to which he added “Every case about sex and drugs involves a certain amount of embarrassment.” Touché, Judge Robreno!
Good Judge!
That’s all they could come up with as a reason not to unseal.
It’s possible his wife is isolated, threatened, demeaned, and otherwise badly abused and likely she is severely brainwashed, suffering from Stockholm syndrome, PTSD and the other effects of a long time relationship to a sociopath.
This is what I too have said all along…Mrs Cosby IS a victim of a sociopath and her children could be also unless they are sociopaths themselves.
I think that throughout the marriage he has been giving her drugs too so that he could go out and do what evil acts he did.
Hopefully she too will escape hell!!
Oops, my mistake. Lawsuit was in 2005.
And if AIG manages to escape from paying damages, these issues could hurt Cosby where he feels it most, in his pocket.
“It would be terribly embarrassing for this material to come out. Frankly,” it would embarrass him, (and) it would also prejudice him in the eyes of the jury pool in Massachusetts.”
Inquisitr.com reports:
Attorney Gowen is referring to a pending civil case against Cosby in Massachusetts. According to Fox News, three women who claimed to have been sexually assaulted by Bill Cosby have filed suit against the comedian; Cosby and his team have vehemently, and publicly, denied those accusations. The three women claim in their lawsuit that Cosby’s denials defamed them. Jury selection is under way in that case, while Cosby and his lawyers try to get the case thrown out before the “discovery” phase of the trial.
Whether or not the “embarrassing” depositions Cosby gave will be unsealed remains to be seen, but U.S. District Judge Eduardo Robreno, in remarks he made Friday, does not appear particularly sympathetic to Cosby.
’Why would he be embarrassed by his own version of the facts?”
WOW!, I wasn’t aware this lawsuit had progressed to the jury selection phase! Hallelujah! And the beat goes on. But why would the attorney argue about a tainted jury pool in MA when the whole world knows the truth about Cosby? Oh well, grasping at straws!
This is an update to my 6/3/15 post of legal actions against Cosby.
Knownow, thank you for this update. YES this is great news that the jury selection phase is underway. I am very happy for all of his victims that it has finally reached the courts…long over due. I am also sure that Cosby will never let this case go to trial, he will settle prior to his/his wife’s deposition. I am completely fine with all of these victims receiving a large settlement but I still hope the truth will come out fully & that Cosby goes to jail for the rest of his life.
This is a sad and very disappointing update of the charges filed against Cosby in New Jersey. Pressofatlanticcity.com reports:
“NO CHARGES FOR BILL COSBY IN ATLANTIC CITY RAPE ALLEGATIONS”
“Comedian Bill Cosby will not face any charges in Atlantic County following allegations that he raped a woman in Atlantic City decades ago.
“As of this writing, the office of the Atlantic County prosecutor has terminated its investigation, closed its file and so notified (the woman’s) lawyer,” said Atlantic City defense attorney Ed Jacobs, who identified himself as Cosby’s attorney in New Jersey.
In May, Actress Lili Bernard claimed Cosby drugged and raped her while in Atlantic City. Bernard spoke with Atlantic City police for more than five hours and provided them with evidence, high-profile attorney Gloria Allred said at the time.
Dozens of women have made public allegations that Cosby sexually assaulted them in some manner over the years. But the states where those claims have been made have time limits setting when criminal charges can be filed.
New Jersey does not have a statute of limitations on rape, but that has been only since 1996. The law is not retroactive.
It seems the allegations predate when the limitation was lifted.
“Whatever (Bernard) was claiming was far beyond the applicable statute of limitations,” Jacobs said. “That was my legal analysis and the analysis of the Atlantic County prosecutor.
“Whatever (Bernard) was claiming was far beyond the applicable statute of limitations,” Jacobs said. “That was my legal analysis and the analysis of the Atlantic County prosecutor.
“Ms. Bernard’s lawyer apparently thought otherwise, but was wrong,” he continued. “There will be no charges filed.”
According to Press archives, Cosby performed at least 18 times in the area between 1990 and 2015, at venues including Trump Taj Mahal, Trump Plaza, Harrah’s, Caesars, Resorts, Borgata, House of Blues and Revel.
Bernard guest-starred in the final season of “The Cosby Show,” and also had a guest appearance in “Seinfeld,” according to her IMDB page.
Allred previously said all states should be like New Jersey in not limiting when a woman can come forward with such allegations.
“New Jersey is a more enlightened and protective state for women,” she said in May. “It should be the gold standard.”
More than 20 women have stepped forward in recent months to level various accusations against Cosby, ranging from unwanted advances to sexual assault and rape. Additionally, Cosby is being sued by three women for defamation and by another woman who says he molested her when she was 15.”
It’s now down to four legal actions pending against Cosby. What’s with this “not retroactive” business and why not?! His evil attorney probably bought off the Atlantic County prosecutor. Oh, and by the way, it’s 45 WOMEN WHO’VE COME FORWARD. Let’s not minimize it!
Josh Duggar ‘facing civil suit from victim of his molestation forcing family to reveal scandal secrets under oath and name those who knew about and hid his offenses’, reports dailymail.com
“Josh Duggar is reportedly facing a civil suit from one of the females who was molested by him when he was a teenager and she was a minor. The statute of limitations has run out on filing criminal charges, but in Arkansas civil suits can be filed years later”.
I wonder if the recently dropped charges against Cosby in New Jersey could be resumed under a civil lawsuit. The pending lawsuit against him in LA was originally filed as a criminal complaint and dropped, it now stands as a civil lawsuit and upheld.
Keep at it Gloria Allred!
BREAKING NEWS….according to newly released former deposition Cosby admitted to giving drugs to that victim. The truth ALWAYS prevails!!! Keep the pressure on Ms Allred & Ms Bloom!
AP News PHILADELPHIA (AP) “Bill Cosby admitted in 2005 that he got quaaludes with the intent of giving them to young women he wanted to have sex with, and that he gave the sedative to at least one woman and “other people,” according to documents obtained Monday by The Associated Press.
That woman and a second woman testified in the same case that they knowingly took quaaludes from him, according to the unsealed documents.
The AP had gone to court to compel the release of the documents from the deposition in a sexual abuse lawsuit filed by former Temple University employee Andrea Constand the first of a cascade of sexual abuse lawsuits against him. Cosby’s lawyers had objected on the grounds that it would embarrass their client.
Cosby settled that lawsuit under confidential terms in 2006. His lawyers in the Philadelphia case did not immediately return phone calls Monday. Constand consented to be identified but did not want to comment, her lawyer said Monday.
Cosby, 77, has been accused by more than two dozen women of sexual misconduct, including allegations by many that he drugged and raped them in incidents dating back more than four decades. Cosby has never been criminally charged, and most of the accusations are barred by statutes of limitations.
Cosby, giving sworn testimony in the lawsuit accusing him of sexual assaulting Constand at his home in Pennsylvania in 2005, said he got seven quaalude prescriptions in the 1970s. The lawyer for Constand asked if he had kept the sedatives through the 1990s after they were banned but was frustrated by objections from Cosby’s lawyer.
“When you got the quaaludes, was it in your mind that you were going to use these quaaludes for young women that you wanted to have sex with?” lawyer Dolores M. Troiani asked.
“Yes,” Cosby answered on Sept. 29, 2005.
“Did you ever give any of these young women the quaaludes without their knowledge?”
Cosby’s lawyer again objected, leading Troiani to petition the federal judge to force Cosby to cooperate.
Cosby later said he gave Constand three half-pills of Benadryl, although Troiani in the documents voices doubt that was the drug involved. The two other women who testified on Constand’s behalf said they had knowingly been given quaaludes.
Three of the women accusing Cosby of sexually assaulting them have a defamation lawsuit pending against him in Massachusetts. They allege that he defamed them when his agents said their accusations were untrue. Cosby is trying to get their case thrown out before discovery.
Cosby had fought the AP’s efforts to unseal the testimony, with his lawyer arguing the deposition could reveal details of Cosby’s marriage, sex life and prescription drug use.
“It would be terribly embarrassing for this material to come out,” lawyer George M. Gowen III argued in June. He said the public should not have access to what Cosby was forced to say as he answered questions under oath from the accuser’s lawyer nearly a decade ago.
“Frankly … it would embarrass him, (and) it would also prejudice him in eyes of the jury pool in Massachusetts,” Gowen said.
U.S. District Judge Eduardo Robreno asked last month why Cosby was fighting the release of his sworn testimony, given that the accusations in the Temple woman’s lawsuit were already in the public eye.
“Why would he be embarrassed by his own version of the facts?” Robreno said.
Cosby resigned in December from the board of trustees at Temple, where he was the popular face of the Philadelphia school in advertisements, fundraising campaigns and commencement speeches.”
Jan 7”.WOO HOO!! I am dancing up and down with my dogs!! This is an incredible victory for the victims of evil Cosby.
Thank you Andrea Constand for having the courage to take on the sociopathic Cosby Machine in 2005 thereby leaving a legal, personal record, under oath, of his heinous acts.
Thank you to all the brave women for coming forward and speaking their truth about this monster, despite being defamed by his Machine.
Thank you AP for your relentless pursuit of the hideous truth about this psychopath masquerading as “America’s Dad”.
The fallout will be enormous… a veritable tsunami of information exposing and confirming what this “thing” did to countless innocent women over fifty plus years. He’s going down! Cosby defenders what do you think now?
Knownow, Great news for sure!
I am so proud of CNN and all these victims for spreading the truth.I can’t imagine the strength it took for all of these women to come forward publicly but I admire them for doing so tremendously.
Two of his victims spoke to CNN tonight. They were both elegant, graceful and forthright in their conversation.
I some how think that Huge Hefner & Cosby were some how working together on drugging women. One of Huge Hefner’s former girlfriend Holly Madison come out with a new book two weeks ago in which she stated that Huge offered her the same drug that Cosby was using. Cosby also drugged many women at the Playboy Mission and the Playboy Clubs where he lived much of his time.
So did Cosby get his drugs from the same Drug Dealer that Huge Hefner used?
Good day for all of these victims!!!
PS…And thank you U.S. District Judge Eduardo Robreno for unsealing the records!
“LAPD Says It’s Investigating Bill Cosby Over Sexual Assault Allegations” reports npr.org:
“The Los Angeles Police Department is conducting at least one current criminal investigation into allegations of sexual assault against Bill Cosby, the department tells NPR’s Mandalit del Barco.
“LAPD Chief Charlie Beck has said his department would investigate any sexual assault accusations against Bill Cosby even past the statute of limitations,” Mandalit reports. “The department’s public information officer, Det. Meghan Aguilar, told NPR that the police have at least one open criminal investigation that may have multiple accusations. The LAPD would not offer any more details because the case is ongoing.
The news comes on the heels of new revelation that Cosby, 77, had said during a deposition in 2005 “that he obtained the sedative Quaalude with the intent of giving the drug to women with whom he wanted to have sex,” as NPR’s Krishnadev Calamur reported Monday.
The news comes on the heels of new revelation that Cosby, 77, had said during a deposition in 2005 “that he obtained the sedative Quaalude with the intent of giving the drug to women with whom he wanted to have sex,” as NPR’s Krishnadev Calamur reported Monday.
Accusations of sexual misconduct against Cosby have increased dramatically in the past year; dozens of women have now come forward to say he assaulted them. In some instances, the allegations date back decades.
In the most serious cases, Cosby, 77, is accused of drugging and raping the women. The entertainer has settled previous allegations against him. He has never faced criminal charges over the claims.
Cosby’s admissions in the now-public deposition give new validation to those claims, Cardozo Law School professor Marci Hamilton tells NPR’s Here & Now.
continuation of LAPD Investigation above …..
Hamilton adds, “on the other hand, for the vast majority of these women, they have no legal option ”“ because the statute of limitations has already expired.”
But Hamilton also said, “What we’re all waiting for, is for the younger victims to come forward who would be in-statute in a particular state. It’s unlikely that someone who operates the way that Cosby apparently did stopped at any particular age. So I assume those victims are out there and we’ll see that happen.”
Cosby’s statement came to light after the Associated Press sought the release of court documents related to a lawsuit filed against him by a former Temple University employee.
A judge unsealed the deposition for several reasons including because he says Cosby is a public figure who has spoken out about moral issues including family life and crime.”
The criminal investigation LAPD is referring to was filed back in January by Chloe Goins, the model who says she was drugged and sexually assaulted by Cosby as recently as 2008 at the Playboy Mansion.
Goins’ lawyer said the comedian’s unsealed testimony that he gave women quaaludes before having sex bolsters his client’s case.
“This disclosure is very helpful to Ms. Goins investigation, both criminally and potentially in a civil action,” attorney Spencer Kuvin told FOX411. “We can use this testimony to prove his modus operandi as a serial sex abuser.”
“The release of this prior testimony merely confirms what over 35 women have been saying for a year now, that Mr. Cosby is a serial sex offender,” Kuvin said. “We now have confirmation, by way of his own sworn testimony, that he obtained drugs to give to others. This is exactly what all of his victims have been saying. It’s nice that there is now hard evidence that is public to disprove his prior hypocritical comments by him and his lawyer in the media.”
Of all the current accusers who’ve come forward, Goins is the only one for whom the statute of limitations has not run out, meaning her allegations could lead to possible criminal charges against Cosby.
