You’re right Oxy! That’s utterly stupid!
Here in Belgium we have a paper called ‘conduct’ paper. You have to ask it from the police. It has your convictions on it for the past 5 years (if they are minor ones) and the police then gives a recommendation on conduct: ‘good’ or ‘not good’ conduct. For minor convictions, like car accidents, or something you get a provisional punishment for (no fine and no time unless you get caught again within a year), police will not give you a conclusion of good conduct for that year. (I had that happen to me for a stupid driving accident on an iced bridge in 1999: convicted for not altering my speed enough to the condition of the road, even though I was way under the max speed and actually had altered my speed as I was the sole driver at that point who was even aware that the bridge was iced.)
Any employer has a right to ask such a paper of yours when hiring you, before signing the contract as well as the reason.
There is also a second type of conduct paper, same process but can be asked by any employer where the employees have to work with kids. Basically this paper says the employee has no past record of being a hazard with kids. When I apply to a new school at a new schoolnetwork (there’s state, city and private) I have to get that type of paper and hand it to them. It’s standard procedure. Basically it’s a permit by the state and the police to work with children or not. And it’s a requirement for schools, kindergartens and other business in child wellfare to ask that background check paper with the employee.
“Paid their debt to society”.. UGH, it’s nutters. Yes, they paid their debt, but there is high recidivism rates with such crimes and you shouldn’t put the cat with the cream.

when I see reactions like that, I no longer think people are ignorant or uninformed. My antennae goes up for spaths who don’t want to turn over any rocks that might reveal them.

Skylar, you make a good point about the other spaths. I didn’t watch the whole documentary linked above but I watched most of it. One person who struck me was a man who said he was a junior producer at the BBC. He had some shady criminal sanction after he left the job. He described being forced by Jimmy Savile to speak on the phone with one of the girls Jimmy raped. His chief complaint about this experience was that HE felt demeaned being forced to talk to this young sex object. WTF?
I was not familiar with Jimmy Savile before the allegations started coming out about him in the past few months. He has no physical resemblance to “my” spath but the photographs of him with the juvenile grins and giant cigars give me the creeps because they remind me of the spath I got involved with. My spath’s physical appearance tracks with Skylar’s descriptions of spaths looking like giant babies. But there is something about those photos that are shockingly similar to one of him that I took for him on his cellphone. Later when I discovered his cheating ways, I saw that it was a photograph he used on his various online dating profiles.

The junior producer felt no empathy for the young girl but he did feel the slime that Jimmy was smearing him with.
Some of the spaths actually do look like giant babies, others just act like them. LOL.

The man who was president of the group at the time I think was at the very least a HIGH LEVEL N if not high in P traits himself. Iwould also not be surprised to learn he was a wife beater either. Just a gut feeling. He did NOT like me, because I was an “uppity woman” to start with and I would challenge him.
He is no longer thank goodness the president of the group. After the episode with that I ran for board of directors and made his life uncomfortable for a couple of years. I got passed several resolutions that he did NOT like and actually prosecuted in criminal court one of his minions who was the jack ass that pointed the blunderbuss at me as a “joke”—but it was a REAL gun, and just because it wasn’t Loaded and just because it was ONLY pointed at my butt didn’t cut any mustard with me. I also got some stringent fire arms regulations passed in the group as well….and would have gone on and gotten enough hades raised that our group would no longer have been allowed to take even muzzle loading fire arms (without bullets) even for demo purposes into national and state parks, so I sort of had him over a barrel. He had already gotten our group which has a replica keel boat forbidden from bringing it to one national park area because one of his minions (the gun pointing one) was SMOKING over a barrel of powder on the boat while there were 25 cub scouts on the boat in the middle of the Arkansas river! So this guy was a real jerk, but he was the buddy of the Prez. That is until he was found with his mother’s dead body (she had been dead about two weeks) and arrested. Sort of vindicated me, I thought.
Ah well, the one is out of the group all together and the other one is no longer a pain in my rump. I just IGNORE him, give him the potted plant treatment at the few events I see him at. He is obviously uncomfortable in my presence but I am not the least bit uncomfortable in his.

Yes, there are several studies indicating those with a “round” face are less trustworthy, even though they are perceived as such. Sandusky has that look.

BBE, early on after the nuptials were spoken, I often wondered about the exspath’s “stare.” It was intense and almost like looking into the eyes of a dead fish. Later, I was in denial about the predatory stare. Sure, I recognized that there was no emotion, whatsoever – the eyes never altered in color or pupil dilation. They just remained the same, regardless of the situation.
I don’t know if there are certain physical characteristics of spaths. But, I recognize that there certainly are behavioral characteristics that each and every one of them engages in. Male, female, transgendered, whatever……they all do the exact same things.

The stare…wow, it was like nothing I have ever seen. At the time of course, I did not relate it to him being a psycho. I thought it was just a sexual attraction thing. But here’s something that makes me feel weird about myself…I found myself staring back! Did anyone else here do that??? I guess I had forgotten that I had even done that at the time. I have heard so many people say that the stare made them uncomfortable and they would look away, but my memory now is making me realize that I would not look away…I would stare back. It was like being hypnotized when he did that to me.
