The question was, “When can you trust your man?”
A reporter who was writing an article on the topic for a major women’s magazine asked the question. It showed up in my e-mail because I subscribe to a service that distributes questions from reporters to experts all around the world who may be able to answer them.
I knew what the reporter was looking for. She wanted succinct little tips like:
- “You can trust your man if he always shows up when he says he will, or at least calls to tell you he’ll be late.”
- “You can trust your man if he introduces you to his mother.”
- “You can trust your man if he shows you his income tax return.”
But, after being married to a sociopath, and hearing the stories of so many Lovefraud readers, I knew that these external signs may not be accurate.
The luring stage
In the beginning of a relationship, the luring stage, sociopaths can be reliable and punctual. They may seem proud to introduce you to their families. They may appear to be financially solvent.
Sociopathic individuals can appear to be deserving of respect, love and trust as long as it suits their purpose. These predators know what they are supposed to do to win over a lover. And they are capable of actually doing it—at least until they feel like they no longer need to.
Once they have their hooks set in you, they may be late—or even disappear for days or weeks with no explanation. Their families may trip over themselves to be good to you—probably because they want you to take the parasite off their hands. And they may flash cash and financial documents—cash taken from the previous partner, and documents that are forged.
So how do you know when to trust your man—or woman? Here’s my answer: You can trust your partner when you can trust yourself.
Trusting yourself
When it comes to romantic relationships, there are two dimensions to trusting yourself.
The first is your own sense of self. You know who you are, what you want, and where your boundaries are. You know that you deserve to be loved simply for being yourself. You understand that a relationship involves giving and taking by both parties, not one person doing all the giving and the other all the taking. You will not jeopardize your well-being in order to have companionship.
The second dimension is trusting your intuition. Your gut, your body, your sixth sense, will tell you when something is wrong. You must have to have enough faith in yourself that you can hear or feel the intuitive messages, and pay attention to them. We get in trouble when we allow ourselves to be talked out of what our intuition is telling us. When a person or suggestion makes us feel uncomfortable, that’s our early warning system, and we must trust ourselves enough to listen.
I responded to the magazine reporter’s inquiry. I told her than the time to trust a man is when we trust ourselves. She didn’t reply. I assume that my answer wasn’t what she wanted.
hopeforjoy – how goes it?
Shabby-LOL, I just try and stay really busy to keep my mind of the fact that I don’t feel well. I have trouble just sitting around and chillin. I do seriously HAVE to venture back into the gym tomorrow, even if I have to ice my foot before and after. I decided last month to venture into the world of hunting cuz it’s something I can do with my dad. He is taking me on my first turkey hunt in April, God willing and I want to take off some lbs before I go trudging through the woods in tons of gear. That’s one really great thing that happened after being dumped by spath and the pain–I now have a great relationship with my dad for the first time in my life and it makes me so happy. 🙂
Turkey hunt!!!! I used to watch that on TV!
It was on some cable channel that had fishing & hunting.
You are gonna have to learn to sit around and chill
if you plan on bagging a turkey!
I thought it was a very suspenseful show,
the turkey would be walking around, unaware, with it’s
head bobbing around, and then… BAM!!!!
(sorry if I am offending anyone)
I am soooooo happy to hear that you are having a
great relationship with your dad!!! That is wonderful!!!!!
ONE/JOY…..ya out there…..got a question for ya about Dowsers/dowsing?!?!?!
WHAT is DOWSING?
Does a dowser need ‘specifics’ like names/addreses’s?
Is it like ‘psychic’ type stuff? Is it an ‘art’……give me the skinny.
I know you’ve had one for the land to find water……can they find ‘treasure’ i’ve been looking for?
LOL Shabby, 2becop, hilarious conversation!
I love it! 2be, you’re one strong chica. SO glad things are going well for you!!

Hey Chic~
Thanks for the info…..
I’ve got a person whom I came across who is coming to do some ‘landscaping’ next week……PRETTY exciting!
Ya know I say…..everything happens for a reason……well, It was kinda odd how I found this person, and the equipment they have is MORe than capable of ‘this’ job…..and well….quite frankly….it’s peice of mind, knowing I can leave the prooperty knowing I did a good faith search!
It’s ‘out’ there…….but I gotta do it!
Maybe I should change my name to digger. 🙂
How are YOU girly?
How about BullDozer? We’ll just call you Dozer!
I think it’s VERY exciting!!!!
“Leave no stone unturned” LOL
Dear EB,
How is the move coming along? We’ve had “Spring” here today, 72 degrees and sun shine! Can’t believe this weather, probably be a blue norther come rolling in in a day or two! CRAZEEEEE weather!
Went outside just to walk around in a tee with short sleeves, can’t believe it! Spent most of the day cooking though and deboning two turkeys and making broth to freeze for recipes for later.
I’ve known people who claimed to be able to dowse for everything from treasures to graves to underground water or minerals. Don’t guess you have anything to lose by letting someone try though. I’m sure you have already tried a metal detector.
Sure have missed you on the blog! It just isn’t the same when you are not here! LOL Things actually seem to be going well for us, Henry has a new eye, I got a 3 year set off for the next parole hearing for “Rosemary’s baby” and we had 72 degree day in January, what more could you ask for ? LOL Now all we need is for you to strike GOLD!!!!
Yes….I’m VERY excited about his….especially the ‘way’ it came about.
I don’t want to say too much, too soon…..but we’ll hope for the best!!!!
Not knowing this person….from adam…..I don’t want to ‘give’ too much info….I also dont know anything about the process.
He’s got ultrasound technology, LCD displays to monitor and state of the art equipment…..goes 6 feet down.
Today, they asked for a name and location……to do a dowsing to aid in the search……I get the sense this persons REAL serious……
Again….privacy’s a concern, not knowing this people…..but I’m going all gut on this one.
We are due a bit of snow tomorrow…..it’s crisp which means DAMN cold tonight.
Moved again all weekend. I’m switching out EVERYTHING from old house to new….lightswitch covers, door locks, lighting, cabinets…..etc…..i’ve got a guy who is a REAL gem!!!! helping me…..he’s a workhorse…..no doubt!
My cousin came up Thrurs to help with the second round move…….so there were 5 guys doing the heavy lifting…..
Today they moved my huge, built in marble topped desk……so…..i’m on a table still at the old house…..until my dowser bud does his thing……
{Proly another few weeks here……????
I went over to new place today and organized rooms…..things get done when I show up with the crew!
My office will be nice…..and i’m happy with what I chose to keep and placement.
Got Jr.s bed up on a frame…..and insisted on a dressor in there…..he seems fine in a box….but…….
Chic…..that ain’t the first time i’ve been referred to as a BULLDOZER…..tha’ts funny!!!! My grandfather used to refer to me as a bulldozer and a firefly……
I’m not reading here much at all right now….I”M so swamped, one day leads into the next.
