Forgive or don’t forgive; that is the question

November 5, 2014 //  by Tracy Andersen//  4 Comments

Peg Streep, a New York City based writer and author or coauthor of nine books, explores the complicated concept of forgiveness Her findings come from concentrating on the psychological point of view of three questions: What is forgiveness, anyway? Is forgiveness an evolutionary step forward? Does forgiving make you a doormat? She also addresses the questions, why do humans forgive and, when they do, how do they hope to benefit? When You Should and Should Not Forgive, from Psychology Today. Link supplied by Lovefraud reader. …

Out of the pain of a failed relationship some good may come

October 28, 2014 //  by Tracy Andersen//  Leave a Comment

While torturing herself by rehashing the details of her second broken marriage over and over again, Jill Gross heard amidst the noise a gentler voice inside her whisper, “Be patient. The most painful relationships can be the best teachers.” After she heard that voice, she began to let herself consider that, just maybe, this heinous experience was serving a benevolent purpose she had yet to discover. And that's when the learning began. How Painful Relationships Can Be The Best Teachers, from tiny Buddha. Link supplied by Mary Ann Glynn.       …

Research reveals men in domestic violence suffer similar effects as women

October 23, 2014 //  by Tracy Andersen//  4 Comments

Although most reported domestic abuse is committed by men against women, a growing body of research has picked up on the prevalence and significance of domestic violence perpetrated against men, says research published in  Psychology of Men & Masculinity. Men who are abused by their female partners can suffer significant psychological trauma, such as post-traumatic stress disorder, depression and suicidal thoughts, according to two papers published by the American Psychological Association. British researcher Anna Randle, PsyD, lead author of a paper summarizing two decades of research says that a lack of reliable data has led to some confusion in literature on domestic violence …

Study reveals possible neurobiological explanation for good and evil

October 11, 2014 //  by Tracy Andersen//  2 Comments

For decades scientists have been studying the unique characteristics of the psychopathic brain. Abigail Marsh, a Georgetown University psychologist, wanted to study the complete opposite of the psychopaths, what she refers to as the “anti-psychopaths.” For her research, Marsh chose altruistic kidney donors. These people are ultra do-gooders who are extraordinarily compassionate, prosocial, and empathetic so much so that they will give up a perfectly good kidney just because a stranger needs it. Her findings, recently published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Science, found that the brains of kidney donors looked structurally different from psychopaths, revealing evidence that th …

Abusers and their 5-step strategy to get women to drop charges

October 3, 2014 //  by Tracy Andersen//  6 Comments

A new study reveals the five-step strategy men who are charged with felony domestic violence use to get their female victims to recant their stories. Researcher Amy Bonomi, associate professor of human development and family science at Ohio State University, and her team, listened to recorded phone calls between incarcerated men and their female victims. The analysis of these conversations may fundamentally change how victim advocates and prosecutors work with domestic violence victims to prosecute abusers, according to the researchers. Jailhouse phone calls reveal why domestic violence victims recant, from Science Daily. "Meet me at the hill where we used to park": interpersonal …

Canadian man admits 37 years of lies to family, friends and four ex-wives

September 30, 2014 //  by Tracy Andersen//  4 Comments

In 1977, Ronald Stan, a 32-year-old, cheating-on-his-wife, father- of-two plumber from Canada burns down his pig barn, fakes his death and moves to the US where he starts a new life in New Orleans as Jeff Walton. After 37 years of living a lie, three American wives, and a son named Jeff Jr., Jeff Walton is coming clean to his lies and deceit. He says he initially ran from his life in Canada so his wife could pay off their debts with the insurance money from his death. (Upon hearing Stan was not dead, she returned all of the insurance money.) “It's been almost 40 years that I've lived this lie. And actually I've been a real good boy, except for the philandering. I paid my taxes, I did e …

Cyber stalking made easy with smartphones and spyware

September 26, 2014 //  by Tracy Andersen//  11 Comments

Editor's Note: This article is a MUST READ for anyone who is being stalked or who needs to keep their location a secret. Because of the latest in smart phone technology, husbands, wives, lovers and exes don't need to leave the comfort of their homes, or hire a private detective, to be able to know their victim's every move. All they have to do is secretly monitor their victim's smart phone, tablet or computer. Stalkers now have software such as MSpy, which is easy to install. All that's needed is a few minutes alone with a victim's smart phone to download the app, activate it, and delete any visible trace of it. The cyber stalker then has the ability to listen in on every conversation, …

Mark Manson reveals why ‘Love is Not Enough’

September 24, 2014 //  by Tracy Andersen//  3 Comments

Mark Manson is an author and entrepreneur who posts on his website hundreds of articles about psychology and modern culture. ”˜Love is Not Enough' is a straightforward look at love through Mark Manson's eyes. Manson compares John Lennon's notion that “all you need is love” with Nine Inch Nails' Trent Reznor's idea that “love is not enough.” Manson sides with Reznor and warns that there are three harsh truths about love: love does not equal compatibility, love does not solve your relationship problems, and love is not always worth sacrificing yourself. Manson summarizes that love is a wonderful experience. It's one of the greatest experiences life has to offer. And it is something ever …
