Dr. James Kauffman: military fraud and drug dealer, hired a hit man to murder his wife

July 11, 2018 //  by Donna Andersen//  1 Comment

A few weeks ago, ABC 20/20 broadcast a show about the murder of April Kauffman in 2012. Last year, her husband, Dr. James Kauffman, was charged with hiring a hit man to shoot her in their home. In January, James Kauffman hanged himself while in prison awaiting trial. The crime took place in Linwood, New Jersey, which is practically in my back yard, so I've been reading the news coverage for years. I began to suspect that the good doctor was a psychopath early on — when he remarried shortly after his wife's death and tried to collect on her insurance policy. Yesterday, a new story came out — James Kauffman had claimed to be a military hero, serving in the Vietnam war. Apparently that's o …

Annapolis shooter Jarrod Ramos—something’s wrong, but he may not be a sociopath

July 1, 2018 //  by Donna Andersen//  3 Comments

On Thursday, Jarrod W. Ramos, 38, burst into the offices of the Capital Gazette newspaper in Annapolis, Maryland and shot five employees dead. This tragic situation began as a stalking case. Here are the details: In 2009, Ramos found a former high school classmate on Facebook. The woman didn't remember Ramos, but Googled him, discovered they were, in fact, classmates, and she was cordial to him. Ramos escalated, began stalking her, and the woman finally pressed charges. Ramos pleaded guilty to criminal harassment and received 90-day suspended sentence and 18 months of probation. The Capital Gazette published an article about the case on July 31, 2011. Ramos didn't like the article, and …

Cognitive dissonance: Vicky Cilliers can’t accept that her husband tried to kill her by tampering with her parachute

May 28, 2018 //  by Donna Andersen//  12 Comments

Emile Cilliers, a British army sergeant, was convicted last week of attempting to kill his wife, Vicky. The two were avid skydivers, and in April 2015, he tampered with her parachute before a jump. She fell 4,000 feet, but miraculously survived. Earlier in the week, Emile Cilliers damaged gas fittings in their home. If the gas had exploded, it would have killed Vicky and their two children. But even though the court found him guilty, Vicky Cilliers can't believe her husband was capable of murder. Read this story: 'I still can't believe he tried to murder me': Tearful wife of Lothario army sergeant refuses to accept his conviction for cutting her parachute, says she has NO plans …

School shootings: Understanding patterns is great, but doesn’t prevent murder

May 21, 2018 //  by Donna Andersen//  Leave a Comment

Another school shooting — in Santa Fe, Texas. Ten dead — eight students and two teachers — and 13 wounded. This one wasn't like the Parkland, Florida shooting, where everyone knew that the perpetrator, Nikolas Cruz, had serious psychological problems. No, this time, when 17-year-old Dimitrios Pagourtzis opened fire, people were shocked. There was only one mention of a possible motive mentioned so far. One of the students killed was Shana Fisher, 16. Shana's mother, Sadie Rodriguez, said that for four months, Pagourtzis kept making advances on her, and she kept refusing. According to the Los Angeles Times, "Pagourtzis continued to get more aggressive, and she finally stood up to him and …

My Bill Cosby experience: I definitely dodged a bullet

April 29, 2018 //  by Donna Andersen//  11 Comments

Entertainer Bill Cosby, 80, was convicted of sexually assaulting Andrea Constand last week. He drugged and assaulted her in 2004. Five other women testified that he did the same thing to them back in the '80s — proving it was Cosby's pattern of conduct. The Philadelphia Inquirer has extensive coverage of the Cosby case. Click this link: Bill Cosby trial And here's a story from USA Today: A complete list of the 60 Bill Cosby accusers and their reactions to the guilty verdict I am now convinced that my personal experience with Bill Cosby was a near-miss. I was young and naive. But luckily, my guardian angels were looking out for me. I wrote about my experience when the story f …

When white-collar criminals commit fraud, unknowing wives are devastated

April 3, 2018 //  by Donna Andersen//  1 Comment

My ex-husband, James Montgomery, was a white-collar criminal. He pretended to be a businessman, but in reality I, and the other women from whom he took more than $1 million, were his business. Federal prosecutors couldn't be bothered going after him. Other white-collar criminals, who are likely sociopaths like my husband, commit fraud with their employers. This gets the attention of law enforcement. When they are prosecuted, the casualties include their wives. In an article for the New York Times, Abby Ellin describes the devastation suffered by women who had no idea what their husbands were doing. They find that other people don't believe that they were unaware, but I do. I know what …

The Atlantic tells the story of serial con man Derek Alldred and his multiple romance scams

March 7, 2018 //  by Donna Andersen//  Leave a Comment

For several years, Lovefraud posted articles about Derek Alldred, a con man who scammed women in Minnesota, Texas and other states. He posed as a war hero, physician, investment banker and more, scamming about a dozen women out of more than $1 million. The creep is finally in jail. And The Atlantic has written a comprehensive story of his exploits — and how his victims banded together to stop him. The perfect man who wasn't, on TheAtlantic.com. My comments on the article: Not once did the author mention any personality disorder. She made the statement that "America loves a con man." Because Alldred impersonated a Navy SEAL, he was investigated by NCIS. That's the first time I …

Red flags that a gold digger may have targeted your elderly parent or friend

February 24, 2018 //  by Donna Andersen//  3 Comments

Many sociopaths (although not all of them) target romantic partners to swindle them out of money. Lovefraud's research shows that most sociopaths continue their manipulative behavior as long as they live. That means senior sociopaths may target other seniors. They may proclaim their love, in order to access the victim's money, home or pension. Jean Mignolet, a private investigator in Florida, where lots of seniors live, recently posted an article about spotting the warning signs of a gold digger. Some are: Ambiguity — the con artist glosses over important information about temselves Significant age difference — especially they met online Moving too fast —rushing important life d …
