Psychopathic mom pressing for more time with the kids

January 16, 2012 //  by Donna Andersen//  30 Comments

Lovefraud received the following email from a man whom we'll call “Brad.” He has two children with a woman who was diagnosed as a psychopath. Brad is concerned about the kids spending more time with their mother. After the email, I'll make a few comments. But many of you have personal experience attempting to co-parent with personality disordered individuals, so if you have suggestions, please post them. I have custody of my two children. My son is 12, and my daughter is 10. I'm remarried too. I have had custody since 12/2007. The kids are doing great. There grades are A's and B's. We have a happy home. Ok, now the question. She was diagnosed as a psychopath, by a very professional psy …

Murder disproves mental health myths

December 19, 2011 //  by Donna Andersen//  97 Comments

The story is shocking. On Friday, Leo Moran, 75, of Chester Township, New Jersey, was charged with the murder of Charlotte Moran, who was 74. They had been high school sweethearts and were married for 54 years. A man who grew up with Leo Moran described them as the perfect couple. So what sparked the violence? Moran's wife and son repeatedly insisted that he get counseling. He finally agreed to go, and then, according to his family, was not honest with the counselor. Please stop now and read Chester man accused of killing wife of 54 years believed she was unfaithful, working against him, on NJ.com. Sometimes we see cases of an elderly person killing his or her spouse of many years …

Pedophile’s wives can be the last to know

December 3, 2011 //  by Donna Andersen//  99 Comments

Almost seven years ago, Darlene Ellison's life was turned upside-down when her husband was arrested as an "inner circle" member of NAMBLA—the North American Man-Boy Love Association. She had no idea what he was doing. Read How Dorothy Sandusky could have been duped, on TheDailyBeast.com. Link supplied by a Lovefraud reader. …

Why Me?

December 1, 2011 //  by Travis Vining//  34 Comments

Editor's note: The following article refers to spiritual concepts. Please read Lovefraud's statement on Spiritual Recovery. My father is a sociopath.  He is also a convicted serial killer who resides on Florida's Death Row.  I idolized my dad as a kid and wanted to be just like him, but I could not.  Life, I thought, had betrayed me and given me something so cruel that I could never trust again.  I didn't believe that I could ever make sense of this experience. How could I possibly come to terms with having been raised by such a monster?  How could I possibly find peace in my life after being victimized as a child and young adult?  How could I come to terms with a question that I though …

Bringing up our children, the hope of the world

November 11, 2011 //  by Joyce Alexander//  36 Comments

Editor's note: Lovefraud honors and respects all spiritual traditions. This article refers to teachings of Christianity. By Joyce Alexander, RNP (Retired) Recently there have been horrible and depressing videos and news stories about parents who are “supposedly” upright citizens but are abusers of their children. Even a professional person like Judge William Adams was seen on video severely beating and cursing his 16-year-old daughter. In addition, there have been in my own acquaintance a minister with children who was caught in a pedophile pornographic sting by the police as he was sending pictures of his “junk” to what he thought was a 14-year-old girl, who thank goodness, was a 40-year …

RESOURCES PERSPECTIVES: Judges are practicing mental health without a license

November 4, 2011 //  by Lovefraud Reader//  83 Comments

Editor's note: Resource Perspectives features articles written by members of Lovefraud's Professional Resources Guide. Rebecca Potter works as a licensed mental health counselor in West Palm Beach, Florida. She can be reached at: tlc211@gmail.com. Judge William Adams shown beating his daughter with a belt on YouTube By Rebecca Potter Rebecca Potter profile in the Lovefraud Professional Resources Guide As I saw the following video and commentary on CNN last night, I could not sleep. It appears that the sheriff in the town of Rockport, Texas has received countless calls of concern about Judge William Adams, who was shown beating his daughter with a belt on YouTube. Judge Adams …

Is this judge a sociopath?

November 3, 2011 //  by Liane Leedom, M.D.//  79 Comments

Those abused by family members and romantic partners seek information on this site trying to understand the personality of their abuser. They wonder is he/she a sociopath? Does a personality disorder explain why this happened to me? The answers to these questions are often hard to come by. Experts require “proof” of a set of personality traits before diagnosing someone with a disorder. Yet in my opinion, we have an obligation to the victims of abuse to explain to them that abusers are not “normal” people who are simply misguided in their attempts to “help” others. Abuse is often perpetrated by sociopaths under the guise of “helping.” This week a young lady 23-year-old Hillary Adams, pos …

LETTERS TO LOVEFRAUD: Winning a court battle with a sociopath

October 21, 2011 //  by Lovefraud Reader//  60 Comments

Editor's note: Lovefraud received the following email from a reader who we'll call “Juliet.” Juliet negotiated a settlement with her ex, the father of her daughter. Names and locations have been changed. In the final papers, I am moving to Delaware and he gets supervised visits in Delaware (until age eight) for much longer than I would have if I were forced to fight in court and let the judge decide. Plus I am not paying for him to visit in Delaware. He agreed to pay child support of $450 once he gets a job. My daughter won't leave Delaware with him until age 10, and she won't fly alone to California until age 12.  And she only can leave for California over spring break and summer vacat …

‘Bad mothering’ lawsuit dismissed

September 7, 2011 //  by Donna Andersen//  34 Comments

An Illinois appeals court recently dismissed a lawsuit filed by the two adult children of Steven A. Milner and Kimberly Garrity, who divorced in 1995. Both children, Steven II and Kathryn, lived with their father, an attorney, in a $1.5 million house. They alleged that their mother caused emotional distress by sending dumb birthday cards or failing to send care packages when they were in college. In reporting the story the Chicago Tribune portrayed Steven II and Kathryn—represented by their father and two other attorneys—as spoiled brats. Read: 'Bad mothering' lawsuit dismissed on ChicagoTribune.com. I was all set to think that the case was a frivolous lawsuit driven by Steven Min …
